The WMU Board of Education met Jan. 27 to approve the hiring of a new superintendent. Jeff Maeder, currently secondary principal at Columbus Community Schools was offered, and has accepted, the position.
Twila Foust of Michigan and Nathan Chaplin of Winfield have announced their engagement and upcoming April 11, 2015 wedding.
Rebecca Lynn Chaplin of Winfield and Steve Lamont Bush of Illinois have announced their engagement and will be married July 16, 2015.
Matt and Ashley Hobbs are proud to announce the birth of their new baby boy. Kalvin Dean Hobbs was born Dec. 26, 2014.

Jill Kathleen Morse of Winfield and Justin Merle Yoder of Morning Sun have announced their engagement and approaching marriage.
Katie Carty, a fifth-grader at WMU, won the school level competition of the National Geographic Bee on Jan. 7.
1995
Crill’s Country Cookin’ has announced plans to reopen on Feb. 3 following a fire on Jan. 2 that caused them to have to close.
Mark and Karen Garrett are parents of a baby boy. Klinton Mark was born Jan. 19, 1995 at HCHC in Mt. Pleasant.
WMU students Katie Richenberger, Troy Hester, Heather Lauderdale, and Kyle Wooton sang in the Meistersinger Honor Choir at Wartburg College in Waverly.
1990
Winfield firemen answered a call to the Bob Williams residence where a spark from an open fire endangered an adjoining building, however no damage was done. They also responded to a chimney fire at the Raymond Werner home. Two firemen were injured, Les Sitzes hurt his arm and Kyle Sutton had a leg injury.
Paige Kepper and Terry Cornick were married Jan. 1 at the home of the bride’s mother in Winfield.
1985
The WMU School Board agreed to allow the shared boys’ baseball program to be conducted entirely at Morning Sun.
The Peoples State Bank Board of Directors and employees honored Clone Swarts, a director of the bank since 1966, at their annual Christmas Dinner. Cecil Linder was elected to replace Clone on the Board.
Dan Johnson, Mt. Union, reported to the Henry County Sheriff's Office that the Mt. Union Oil Station was broken into on Jan. 15.
1980
Winners in the Cub Scout Pine Wood Derby held at the Winfield Community Building were Scott Briggs, Greg Hill, Sean Moore, Jake Mace, Joel Haines, Kerry Jennings, Lynn Huston won best design; Greg Hill, best paint job; and Russell Buffington, unusual design.
1975
Stanley Eugene Jewell was ordained at the United Presbyterian Church in Crawfordsville on Jan. 12.
The town of Olds has applied for a $70,000 loan from FHA.
The town of Winfield was eligible for $1711 in Federal State Disaster Assistance Program. Damage was to the disposal plant which occurred during the extremely wet months from March-May 1973, when water was over the road.
