The Winfield Fire Department was notified last week that they were selected to receive the Assistance to Firefighters Grant in the amount of $114,000 for new equipment purchase.
Matt and Kerri Anderson announce the birth of Colin Lee Anderson on Jan. 29, 2010. He is welcomed home by Madie, Anna, and Grant.
2005
Jeremy Barrett, 24-year-old son of Todd and Linda Spence of Winfield, died on the North Shore Feb. 6, 2005 after his parachute failed to open. Barrett was a Navy sailor based at Pearl Harbor.
Jim and Deanne (Messer) Ackerman of North English are the proud parents of a son, Bryan James, born Jan. 25, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
2000
The cities of Winfield and Wayland have been informed that RAGBRAI will be passing through the communities this coming July.
Seven students from WMU high school participated in the Central College Bandfest in Pella on Jan. 27. They were Matt Klohr, Amy Freiberg, Adam Suter, Kinsey Olson, Jess Harvey, Robert Genkinger, and Chris Benischek.
Bill and Michelle Niebuhr are the parents of a baby boy, Mitchell William was born Jan. 26, 2000.
Teresa Crill and Robert Hartsock are the parents of a baby girl, Lexee Dawn was born Jan. 9, 2000.

Kenneth Juil Coberley, age 69, of Morning Sun was killed in an early morning accident at the intersection of a county pavement and Highway 78.
Judy Roberts Anderson has joined the staff at Hagge Insurance Company in August 1994.
Rick and Maxine Mabeus traveled to St. Louis where they were presented with a certificate for Rick’s entry in the Farmer Idea Exchange Contest.

Approximately 200 friends and family attended the 50th wedding anniversary open house on Feb. 4 for Bill and Wahneetah Hamilton.
Mayor Les Sitzes and members of the Winfield City Council would like to hear feedback on changing the name of Locust Street to Main Street.

Harold Tolander received a gift from John Alliman, Olds Legion Post Commander, in honor of his years of service and as last post veteran of WWI.
David and Steve Gerling have announced the opening of Feed Depot Feb. 11.
Peggy Sue Grothe and Craig William Grothe were united in marriage Dec. 19, 1984.
1980
Mr. and Mrs. Weston Grupe observed their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 17. Mrs. Grupe was the great-granddaughter of Bartholomew Hochreiter, who settled in Scott Township in 1836, the first settler in this township.
1975
The town of Olds has been granted a loan of $80,000 from the Farmers Home Administration to be used in drilling a new well to replace two wells that have gone dry.
Trudy Werner and Max Sharp were united in marriage Jan. 11 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winfield.
