1998
• Former longtime area teacher and Iowa Social Studies Teacher of the Year Elsie Ann Asby, age 60, passed away. She taught school for 33 years at Winfield-Mt. Union.
• Henry County was hit by high winds and heavy rains. The storm hit Winfield at 3 p.m. and lasted approximately 45 minutes. It contained very strong winds, causing many trees downed in the Winfield area.
• Angela Mabeus, daughter of Mark and Rosemary Mabeus, has been awarded an $4500 trustee’s scholarship to attend Central College.
• Three juveniles, Jake Burchett, Mt. Union, Isaiah Rice, Mt. Union, and Corey Adams, Mt. Pleasant were charged in connection with the June 21 burglary at the CounTREEStore in Winfield.
• Lois Crawford came home after throat surgery on Marcy hospital, Iowa City. She spent time recuperating at a son’s home in Washington, Ron and Jan Crawford.
2003
• The Winfield Historical Society presents “Winfield Tile Factory” at Winfield City Park on Monday, June 23. Employees and the family of owners will tell the story.
• The Winfield Library will hold an Open House on Thursday, June 12 to celebrate 90 years of library service to the Winfield community.
• Betty Larson and Johanna Crawford returned May 22 from a four-day trip to Chicago. They traveled by Amtrak. Larson had won a random drawing from “Home and Away.”
• WMU and WACO school boards held a joint meeting where they received the results of a feasibility study on the districts’ futures.
• Warmth and Wonders Preschool is looking for a new location due to DHS regulations, they are being forced to move from the Presbyterian Church.
2008
• Elizabeth Miller, daughter of Tom and Sharon Miller, graduated magna cum laude with a degree in communication studies, business management/Spanish from Central College in Pella.
• Michelle Jean Marie Pinney and Dustin Ray Roth both graduated from ISU College of Veterinary Medicine.
• On Saturday, June 21, 2008 Winfield Police Chief John Chaney was assaulted by a Winfield resident.
• Alexa Rae Frier of Washington and Trevor James Kongable of Winfield are pleased to announce their engagement and upcoming wedding.
2013
• A new event has been added to the Crooked Creek Days. Alumni from both Winfield-Mt. Union and WACO will once again put on the pads and take to the fields on Friday, August 2 for an alumni football game.
• Grant Fricke, senior history education major at Culver-Stockton College, was named to the dean’s list. He is the son of Darin and Diana Fricke of Winfield.
• Seth Schurr, age 10, and Ana Schurr, age 12, each donated over 10 inches of hair to Locks of Love.
• The Winfield-Mt. Union shuttle hurdle relay team of Emily Mathews, Karlie, Wade, Cassie Kingery and Anna Crawford were crowned Class 1A State Champions at the State Track meet on May 18.
• Cassie Kingery, Winfield-Mt. Union, won the 100m hurdles at the State Track meet May 18.
