SIGOURNEY — This year’s Carcass Contest at the Keokuk County Expo Fair was a major success, giving local youth the opportunity to evaluate their beef, sheep, and swine projects beyond the show ring. Judged on carcass quality like marbling, yield grade, and backfat this contest helps youth better understand how their feeding and care decisions impact meat quality.
“Thanks to tremendous community support, over $8,106 was raised through sponsorships. Every dollar will be returned to the youth exhibitors who participated in the Carcass Contest at the expo, rewarding their hard work and supporting future ag leaders,” said Kelly Albert, Keokuk County Extension and Outreach County Director.
