Panther cross-country teams start strong

Pekin’s cross-country teams opened their season at Albia last Tuesday, August 29.
The Panther girls’ team finished second with 60 points. They had two runners with top 10 finishes, Chloe Glosser finished second in 19:45.40 and Lauren Steigleder was sixth in 22:02.40.
Audrey Fariss finished 13th with a time of 22:33.80, while Abby Guise was 26th in 25:06.60 and Callie Deutschle was 27th in 25:06.90. Lexi Swearingen was 35th with a time of 25:40.90. Renae Eubanks finished 40th in 26:19.60, Breanna Drish was 41st in 26:36.60, Cambree Earnest was 42nd in 26:50.60. Teagan Swearingen was 49th in 28:06.50, Brinley Phillips was 54th in 29:09.80, Alyssa Sylvester was 61st in 31:09.30, and Kadence Brisby was 68th in 35:15.50.
Pekin’s boys’ team also had a second-place finish with 68 points. Brady McWhirter won the event in a time of 16:56.10. Also finishing in the top 10 for Pekin were JaeDon Wolver in sixth in 17:47.90 and Mason Dahlstrom in tenth in 18:09.30. Cole Millikin was the next Panther to cross the line, finishing 23rd in 19:28.40. Lane Fariss took 28th in 19:52.90, and Ben Guise was 33rd in 20:10.50. Rounding out the top seven runners for Pekin was Dylan Sobaski in 48th in 21:35.40. Brody Sobaski finished 65th in 22:46.40, Conor Cloyd was 83rd in 24:26.50, Hayden Miller was 94th in 26:15.90, and Clayton Harvey was 101st in 27:04.60.,
The Panther girls’ team won the race at Wildwood last Thursday. Chloe Glosser won the race in a time of 18:55.59, while Lauren Steigleder was fourth in 21:19.60 and Audrey Fariss was sixth in 21:42.85. Abby Guise finished 23rd in 23:35.37 and Lexi Swearingen was 31st in 24:17.63. Renae Eubanks finished 42nd in 25:19.37, Callie Deutschle was 43rd in 25:22.37, Breanna Drish was 45th in 25:27.46, and Cambree Earnest finished 48th in 25:39.32. Teagan Swearingen finished 52nd in 26:19.86, Brinley Phillips finished 53rd in 26:21.10, Alyssa Sylvester was 82nd in 31:14.04, and Kadence Brisby finished 86th in 32:11.06.
The Panther boys’ team had another second place team finish at Ottumwa’s Wildwood last Thursday. JaeDon Wolver was the top runner for Pekin, finishing sixth with a time of 17:10.40. Mason Dahlstrom finished 12th in 17:49.99 while Cole Millikin took 14th in 17:55.84. Lane Fariss finished 24th in 18:58.90 and Ben Guise finished 26th in 19:20.50. Dylan Sobaski finished 48th in 20:54.28 and Brody Sobaski was 64th in 21:53.82. Hayden Miller was 74th in 22:52.29, Clayton Harvey was 81st in 23:36.49, and Conor Cloyd was 83rd in 24:01.71.
