Panther teams compete in state meet

Both of Pekin’s varsity cross-country teams were at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge last Friday afternoon as the 2023 state cross-country meet got started.
The Panther girls’ team took a sixth-place finish with 199 points. The boys scored 233, finishing tenth in team points.
Brady McWhirter had a top 10 finish in the state meet, taking tenth in a time of 16:26.5. JaeDon Wolver crossed the line 55th in 17:44.4, and Mason Dahlstrom had a 85th place finish in 18:08.7. Cole Millikin finished 97th in 18:25.5, while freshman Lane Fariss was 118th in 18:52.9. Ben Guise finished out his season with a 134th place finish in 19:24.7, and Dylan Sobaski finished 144th in 20:22.7.
Chloe Glosser was the top runner for the Pekin girls, finishing 17th with a time of 19:54.4. The second runner in for Pekin was senior Lauren Steigleder, who finished 51st in 20:50.3; Audrey Fariss was close behind, finishing 55th in 20:55.4. Abby Guise finished 114th in 22:42.3, Lexi Swearingen was 120th in 22:51.6, Breanna Drish finished 132nd in 23:27.3, and Cambree Earnest was 134th in 23:35.2.
