Panther teams finish regular season

The Panther cross-country teams competed in their final regular season meet Tuesday, October 18. Pekin’s varsity girls’ team continued with their winning season, taking first in E-B-F’s Mike Jay Invitational meet with 16 points. L&M finished second with 58 and Columbus was third with 63.
Pekin had all seven varsity runners finish in the top 15, with Chloe Glosser getting the win in 20:52.0. Lauren Steigleder was second in 21:29.5, Brooke Miller finished third in 22:36.6, and Audrey Fariss was fourth in 22:43.7. Lexi Swearingen took seventh in 24:07.3, while Brooke Sylvester was ninth in 24:34.4 and Renae Eubanks finished 12th in 24:44.1.
In the boys’ varsity race, Pekin didn’t field a full team but they still had the top runner with Brady McWhirter winning in a time of 17:34.9. Cole Millikin finished 11th in 19:47.0, Ben Guise finished 21st in 21:01.4, and Dylan Sobaski took 23rd in 21:29.2.
The Panthers had two in the JV girls’ race, with Teagen Swearingen winning in 26:36.8 and Kadence Frisbee finishing second in 31:41.2.
Pekin’s junior high girls’ won with 20 points, 15 points over second-place Columbus. Pekin runners took fifth through eighth place, with Callie Deutschle finishing fifth in 14:15.9, Harper Guise sixth in 14:36.7, Brinley Phillips seventh in 14:37.4, and Cambree Earnest eighth in 15:03.3. Alyssa Sylvester took an 11th place finish in 15:17.0.
In the junior high boys’ race, Pekin had the top runner with Mason Dahlstrom winning in 11:01.2. Cael Silvers finished third in 11:33.4, Lane Fariss was fourth in 11:43.0, and Brady Sobaski finished fifth in 11:49.9. Sam Hall finished seventh in 12:19.3 with Hayden Miller close behind in eighth in 12:23.5. Cody Silvers was 10th in 12:43.3, Clayton Harvey finished 20th in 14:19.7, and Liam Guise finished 22nd in 14:22.2.
The Panther varsity teams will be running in the state-qualifying meets this Thursday, October 20.
Pekin's varsity and JV runners take off last Tuesday in the Mike Jay Invitational. The Panthers won the team title, with runners taking the top four finishes.
Pekin's Brady McWhirter won the varsity boys' race in a time of 17:34.9
