Panther track teams compete in Central Indoor meet

The Pekin high school track teams competed at the Central Indoor meet in Pella last Thursday. The teams were divided into two classes, with Pekin running in Class A with Baxter, Highland, Lone Tree, Moravia, Seymour, Tri-County, Twin Cedars, and WACO. Teams competing in Class AA were Albia, Bondurant-Farrar, Davis County, EBF, Fort Madison, and Interstate 35.
Varsity Girls
The Panther varsity girls’ team had six first place finishes, three second place finishes, and three third place finishes.
In the field events, Abby Guise placed first in the high jump with a jump of 4-10 and Kayse Miller finished second with a jump of 4-08. Anna Hadley won the shot put with a throw of 35-05.50, while Haylea Oostra finished third with a throw of 31-00. Claire Roth had a jump of 14-06 to finish third in the long jump.
The Panthers had four first place relay finishes. The shuttle hurdle team of Claire Roth, Sabrina Reneker, Lilly Reneker, Rowan Connelly won with a time of 45.9. Pekin’s 4x800 team of Chloe Glosser, Alex Parsons, Audrey Fariss, and Brooke Miller won in 10:58.8. Claire Roth, Sabrina Reneker, Audrey Fariss, and Chloe Glosser won the 4x400 relay in a time of 4.36. The distance medley team of Lauren Steigleder, Audrey Fariss, Brooke Miller, and Chloe Glosser won in 14:14.
Pekin’s 55-meter shuttle relay team of Erica Hoy, Kayse Miller, Renae Eubanks, and Payten Coleman placed second in 34.78. Finishing second in the California mile with a time of 4:16 was Lauren Conklin, Alyissa Brock, Krysta Sheets, Erica Hoy, Abby Guise, Kayse Miller, and Lexi Swearingen.
The 4x200 relay team of Claire Roth, Lilly Reneker, Renae Eubanks, and Sabrina Reneker finished third in 1:59.57. Erica Hoy finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.72.
Varsity Boys
The Pekin varsity boys’ team took home two first place finishes from Thursday’s meet. The 4x800 relay squad of Riley Smith, Cole Millikin, Will Daniels, and Noah Lucas won with a time of 10:46; and the distance medley team of JaeDon Wolver, Will Daniels, Nolan Glick, and Brady McWhirter won with a time of 12:16.
Nolan Glick, Robert Brown, JaeDon Wolver, and Brady McWhirter teamed up to get a second-place finish in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:58; while the shuttle hurdle team of JaeDon Wolver, Will Adam, Robert Brown, and Carson Comstock placed second in 40.98.
Sven Dahlstrom, Carson Comstock, Nolan Glick, Kasey Davis, Robert Brown, Will Daniels, Cole Millikin, and Riley Smith finished third in the California mile with a time of 3:50.
Kasey Davis finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 10.21. The 4x200 relay team of Sven Dahlstrom, Robert Brown, Kasey Davis, and Will Adam finished fifth in 1:47.1
In the field events, Caden Bender finished second in the shot put with a throw of 41-03.25; JaeDon Wolver placed third in the high jump with a jump of 5-08, and Will Adam finished fifth in the long jump with a jump of 17-05.50.
JV Girls
Pekin’s JV girls’ team had six first place finishes in the Central Indoor meet. Getting wins in the meet were the 4x800 relay team (13:10), the 4x200 relay team (2:09.26), the 4x400 relay team (4:55), and the 55-meter shuttle hurdle team (37.44). Getting individual event wins were Renae Eubanks in the high jump (4-02) and Emma Phillips in the shot put (29-00.50). The California mile team finished second (4:45). Payten Coleman finished third in the 60-meter hurdles (11.79). Grace Phillips finished second in the shot put (23-05.75), while Kylie Wise finished fourth (21-01.50) and Audra Steigleder finished sixth (18-04.75)
JV Boys
Pekin’s JV boys’ team had two second place finishes with Riley Smith in the high jump (5-00) and the California mile relay team (4:19). Getting third place finishes were the 4x200 relay team (2:09.04), 55-meter shuttle hurdle team (34.43), and Robert Brown in the long jump (17-01.50). Fourth place finished came from the 4x400 relay team (4:43) and Alton Williams in the shot put (31-01.25). Brayden Greiner placed fifth in the shot put (27-03)
Lexi Swearingen was part of the California relay team in the Central meet last week.
Audrey Fariss ran on multiple relay teams in the indoor meet at Central last Thursday.
Claire Roth ran the first leg of the 4x200 and 4x400 relays as well as the 60-meter shuttle hurdle relay.
Senior Brooke Miller competed in the Central indoor meet last week. She was part of the 4x800 and distance medley teams.
