Panther varsity teams sweep Mike Jay Invitational

The Panther cross country teams competed in the Mike Jay Invitational hosted by Columbus last Tuesday, October 10.
Pekin’s varsity girls’ team took the title with 20 points, beating out second-place Columbus by 23 points.
The Panthers had a one-two finish with Chloe Glosser winning in 19:52.4 and Lauren Steigleder taking second in 21:06.6. Audrey Fariss was a close fourth place with a time of 21:50.3, and Lexi Swearingen placed in the top-ten with a seventh place finish in 23:03.7.
Abby Guise finished the race in 11th place in 23:26.2, while Cambree Earnest was 13th in 23:55.1, and Breanna Drish was 15th in 24:37.7.
The varsity Panther boys’ team won their event with 38 points. Winfield-Mt. Union finished second with 73 and Van Buren was third with 75.
Pekin’s Brady McWhirter won the race with a time of 16:37.3. JaeDon Wolver took fourth in 17:49.0 and Mason Dahlstrom was sixth in 18:06.0.
Cole Millikin finished 11th in 18:49.4 and Lane Fariss was 16th in 19:15.6. Ben Guise finished 24th with a time of 20:03.4 and Clayton Harvey took 43rd in 22:25.8.
The JV girls’ race was made up of all Pekin runners. Brinley Phillips won in 24:45.8, Callie Deutschle was second in 25:06.5, third went to Teagan Swearingen in 26:08.0, fourth was Alyssa Sylvester in 29:21.7, and fifth was Kadence Brisby in 30:28.9.
Pekin’s Conor Cloyd finished fourth in the boys’ JV race with a time of 22:41.7, and Hayden Miller finished fifth in 23:16.9
Pekin’s middle school girls’ team won their race with 26 points. Leading Pekin was Mya Glick, finishing third in 12:59.5. Fourth went to Ashlyn Adrian in 13:12.2, and fifth was Harper Guise in 13:25.4. Zoe Heisdorffer finished ninth in 14:54.4, Reagan Wise was 16th in 16:52.3, 19th was Zoey Denison in 17:13.6, and Haven Hensley finished 20th in 17:37.9.
In the boys’ middle school race, Pekin’s Sam Hall won with a time of 10:59.7. Landon Fariss finished eighth in 12:31.1, Liam Guise was 17th in 13:06.8, and Colton Harvey finished 20th in 13:33.8
