The Pekin basketball teams hosted Columbus on Thursday, Jan. 2 before traveling to Highland on Friday, Jan. 3 to face off against the Huskies.
Girls, Jan. 2
Pekin 39, Columbus 55
Pekin struggled in the second period against Columbus, only scoring two, to trail at halftime 17-31. The Panthers were more competitive in the second half but couldn’t make up the difference.
Anna Hadley put up 10 points for the Panthers and pulled down 10 rebounds while having three assists. Ezra Parsons added eight points and had three assists. Renae Eubanks, Maddy Petrehn, and Abby Guise each put up six points, with Guise having eight rebounds as well. Paislee Coleman had 13 rebounds in the game and three points.
Girls, Jan. 3
Pekin 54, Highland 49
Pekin and Highland needed an overtime to get the game finished on Jan. 3. The Panthers outscored the Huskies 7-2 in that OT to take a 54-49 win.
Renae Eubanks was hot behind the three-point line, sinking four. Eubanks had 18 points total, along with five steals and four rebounds. Abby Guise put up 15 points and had 20 rebounds in the game. Maddy Petrehn added nine points and had five steals, and Anna Hadley put up seven points and had 12 rebounds. Carlie Gambell added three points and Paislee Coleman had two points along with nine rebounds and four assists.
Boys, Jan. 2
Pekin 63, Columbus 35
The Panthers took an early lead against Columbus on Jan. 2 at home and never looked back, getting a 63-35 win.
Cole Millikin led the Panthers in scoring with 21. He also had nine rebounds and three steals. Nolan Glick put up 12 points and had five rebounds, while Kasey Davis added 10 points and had three steals. Will Adam and Henry Adam each had eight points, with Will having six rebounds and six steals, and Henry having six assists. Alijah Brock and Leithyn Durflinger each had two points.
Boys, Jan. 3
Pekin 74, Highland 30
Pekin got their second win in as many days on Jan. 3, beating Highland 74-30.
Cole Millikin was again the high scorer for Pekin, putting up 23 points including four baskets from behind the three-point line. Millikin also had four rebounds and seven steals in the game. Will Adam put up 16 points while having nine rebounds and seven steals, and Nolan Glick added 10 points and had six rebounds. Kasey Davis added seven points and pulled down six rebounds, and Alijah Brock had six points and five rebounds. Henry Adam had four points and six assists, while Riley Smith and Robert Brown each scored three and Carson Comstock two.
