Panthers host annual grade race

Pekin hosted the annual cross country grade races Saturday, Sept. 23 at Waterworks Park in Fairfield.
In the seventh grade girls’ race, Pekin had six runners and finished second as a team behind Albia. Mya Glick placed third in 11:25, Ashlynn Adrian was fourth in 11:27, Zoe Heisdorffer was fifth in 13:42, Regan Wise finished seventh in 15:44, Zoey Denison was eighth in 16:01, and Haven Hensley finished 10th in 17:16.
Pekin had two runners compete in the seventh grade boys’ race, where they took third as a team. Landon Fariss finished third in 11:21 and Colton Hervey was seventh in 13:09.
Harper Guise was the lone Panther running in the girls’ eighth grade race, winning with a time of 11:40.
In the eighth grade boys’ race, Pekin’s Sam Hall placed second in 10:08, while Liam Guise was eighth in 11:19 and Chase Keller was 15th in 12:23. The team finished second behind Albia.
Pekin’s ninth grade girls finished second as a team. Bree Earnest finished fourth in 24:44. Breanna Drish was sixth in 25:22, Brinley Phillips was seventh in 25:45, and Alyssa Sylvester finished 13th in 32:27.
Pekin and Albia tied for first in the ninth grade boys’ race. Mason Dahlstrom was the race in 17:59, while Lane Fariss was fourth in 19:19 and Brody Sobaski was 10th in 22:04. Clayton Harvey finished 12th in 23:00 and Hayden Miller finished 13th in 24:43.
The Pekin girls finished second behind Davis County in the tenth grade race. Chloe Glosser finished second in 20:04, Abby Guise finished eighth in 25:06, and Teagan Swearingen was 10th in 26:33.
The tenth grade boys’ team also finished second to Davis County. Cole Millikin won the event in 18:51 and Conor Cloyd finished eighth in 22:57.
Pekin and Davis County tied in the 11th grade boys’ race. Brady McWhirter won in 16:47 and Dylan Sobaski was seventh in 20:47.
The Pekin senior girls finished second to Albia. Lauren Steigleder finished third in 21:37, Audrey Fariss finished fourth in 22:40, Lexi Swearingen was seventh in 24:33, and Kadence Brisby finished 10th in 31:17.
Pekin’s senior boys’ team finished second by one point to Davis County. JaeDon Wolver won the race in 17:33, while Ben Guise finished eighth in 20:33.
