Panthers host annual grade race, compete in Iowa City meet

The Pekin cross country teams hosted the annual grade races on Saturday, Sept. 28
In the 12th grade girls’ race, Pekin’s only competitor, Renae Eubanks, placed second with a time of 24:15.99.
Dylan Sobaski was the only Pekin runner in the boys’ 12th grade race where he placed second in 19:49.17.
Abby Guise represented Pekin in the 11th grade girls’ race, placing third in 23:16.58.
In the 11th grade boys’ race, the Panthers had two runners, with Cole Millikin winning in a time of 17:41.81 and Conor Cloyd finishing sixth in 20:46.92. Pekin placed second as a team with 7 points.
The 10th grade girls’ team finished second with 10 points. Maddy Petrehn placed fourth in 23:33.65, while Brinley Phillips finished sixth in 24:27.38 and Callie Deutschle was seventh in 24:49.39.
Pekin’s 10th grade boys’ team placed first with 4 points. Mason Dahlstrom won the event with a time of 18:27.36, while Lane Fariss was third in 18:32.50. Brody Sobaski placed fifth in 20:38.76, Mayden Miller finished eighth in 22:17.74, Clayton Harvey was 10th in 23:26.72, and Wyatt Brown finished 12th in 26:32.12.
Harper Guise was the lone Panther in the 9th grade girls’ race, finishing fifth in 25:44.80.
The 9th grade Pekin boys’ team placed third with 9 points. Sam Hall placed second in 20:02.44 and Liam Guise finished seventh in 24:45.87.
Pekin’s 8th grade girls finished second as a team with 10 points. The top runner for the team was Mya Glick, finishing third in 11:30.24. Haven Hensley finished seventh in 14:37.92, Reagan Wise was eighth in 14:56.54, and Behan Zirkle finished ninth in 15:21.06.
The 8th grade boys’ team had a second-place team finish with 11 points. Landon Fariss placed fourth in 10:26.32 and Colton Harvey finished seventh in 10:50.56.
The 7th grade girls’ team won with five points. Scout Lock was the top runner for the Panthers, placing second in 11:37.31. Stella Dickey got a third-place finish with a time of 11:56.00.
The Pekin cross country teams competed in the Bud and Bonnie Williams Invitational in Iowa City on Thursday, Oct. 3
The Panther boys’ team finished 10th with 309 points. Winning the boys’ event was Cedar Rapids Prairie with 32 points, followed by Iowa City City High in second with 62. Pekin’s girls’ team finished 11th with 307 points. Pella won the girls’ event with 41 points while Dubuque Senior was second with 61.
Cole Millikin was the first runner in for Pekin in the boys’ race, finishing 45th in 18:13.8. Mason Dahlstrom was 58th in 18:28.5, and Lane Fariss came in 78th in 19:48.6. Sam Hall finished 102nd in 21:12.3, Brody Sobaski was 103rd in 21:15.9, and Dylan Sobaski was 104th in 21:18.1, while Hayden Miller was 121st in 23:10.1. Clayton Harvey finished 126th in 24:36.6, Liam Guise was 128th in 25:55.6, and Wyatt Brown finished 129th in 28:10.0.
For the Pekin girls’ team, Chloe Glosser had a top five finish, placing fifth in 19:11.2. Abby Guise finished 77th in 24:15.4, Maddy Petrehn was 86th in 24:44.6, and Renae Eubanks finished 93rd 26:48.1. Callie Deutschle was 99th in 27:20.1, Brinley Phillips was 100th in 27:22.1, and Harper Guise finished 102nd in 28:10.4.
