Pekin athletes compete in Special Olympics

Dominic Martin, a graduate of Pekin, placed second in both the long jump and the 100-meter dash in the Iowa Summer Olympics held in Ames last month.

Pekin students, Tea Orgovanyi and Derek Bohrn competed in the Iowa Summer Olympics held in May in Ames. Tea placed first in the softball throw and second in soccer skills. Derek placed first in both soccer skills and the javelin throw.

Three area athletes competed in the Summer Games of the Iowa Special Olympics held in Ames May 16-18.

Dominic Martin, a 2918 graduate of Pekin, placed second in both the long jump and the 100-meter dash.

Tea Orgovanyi, a student at Pekin, placed second in soccer skills, and came away with a first-place finish in the softball throw.

Derek Bohrn, also a student at Pekin, got first place finishes in both soccer skills and the javelin throw.
