Pekin boys’ wrestling team compete at Davis Co., host Bill Rex Invitational

The Pekin wrestling team opened the season up in Bloomfield on Tuesday, and fell to hosting Davis County 48-30, Lynnville-Sully 39-27, and Ottumwa 64-18.

Zachary Doud (120) over Kade Martin by fall in 5:44. Gavyn Brown (160) over Luke Farley by fall in 0:54. Logan Baker (170) over Aries Derby by fall in 0:22. Blake Juhl (182) and Ryan Doud (195) both won by forfeit.
Lynnville-Sully 39, Pekin 27
Logan Baker (170) over Reese Dunsbergen by 10-6 decision
Ryan Doud (195), Reed Lauderman (106), Gannon Greiner (126), and Gavyn Brown (160) all won by forfeit.
Ottumwa 64, Pekin 18
Blake Juhl (182) over Aiden Lord by fall in 1:35. Ryan Doud (195) over Neo Guida by fall in 2:39. Logan Baker (170) won by forfeit.
Bill Rex Invitational
Pekin hosted their annual Bill Rex Invitational Saturday, December 3. The Panthers finished fifth with 88 points. Winning was Albia with 222, North Mahaska was second with 163, Moravia third with 93, and Van Buren was fourth with 92. Chariton finished sixth with 86, Davis County was seventh with 85, Montezuma finished eighth with 81, and Cardinal was ninth with 63.
Pekin crowned three champions with Gavyn Brown (160), Logan Baker (170) and Blake Juhl (182)
Reed Lauderman (106) placed third after losing by fall in Round 1 to Dylan Chandler of Chariton and to Tucker Ball of Davis County in Round 2.
Zachary Doud (120) placed third after winning the third place match with a 14-7 decision over Cardinal’s Mason Shepherd.
Hayden Bowman (120) placed sixth after losing the fifth place match to Sebastian Shaw of Albia by fall.
Gavyn Brown (160) won after winning the first place match over Albia’s Joey Pearson with a fall in 5:19.
Logan Baker (170) won after winning the first place match over Wyatt VanWeelden of North Mahaska with a 10-8 decision.
Blake Juhl (182) won after winning the first place match over Devin Kimball of Albia by fall in 5:05.
