Pekin cross country competes at Fairfield meet

Waterworks Park in Fairfield was chalk full of cross-country runners last Thursday, as the Trojans hosted their first home meet of the season.

It was all Pekin in the small school girls’ race. The Panthers dominated the field, placing five runners in the top ten to win the meet by 40 points.

Freshman Chloe Glosser continued to impress, finishing first, in 21:17.53. Lauren Steigleder was second, with a time of 21:46.57. Brooke Miller (23:08.44) and Audrey Fariss (23:34.97) were fourth and fifth respectively, while Brooke Sylvester finished tenth in 25:18.17. Lexi Swearingen had a 16th place finish in 26:01.02, and Renae Eubanks was 21st in 26:56.85. Teagan Swearingen finished 29th in 29:33.81.

In the boys’ small school race, Pekin’s top runner was Cole Millikin, finishing 21st in 21:09.36. Ben Guise finished 37th for Pekin in a time of 22:57.78, while Dylan Sobaski was 46th in 23:13.76 and Brady McWhirter finished 68th in 27:11.04.

In the small school junior high girls’ race, Brinley Phillips was Pekin’s top runner, placing seventh in 16:58.81. Callie Deutschle finished eighth in 17:09.44. Harper Guise and Cambree Earnest placed tenth and 11th, respectively, in 17:36.97 and 18:20.17; and Alyssa Sylvester was 16th in 20:18.82.

Mason Dahlstrom won the boys’ small school junior high race in a time of 12:09.06, while Lane Fariss took third in 13:04.01. Sam Hall finished 7th in 14:16.21 and Kaydyn Graham was eighth in 14:25.31. Hayden Miller finished 11th in 15:03.83, Cod Silvers finished 12th in 15:12.66, Clayton Harvey was 19th in 15:47.76, and Liam Guise finished 21st in 16:26.80.
