Pekin faces two losses before break

Pekin faced off against English Valleys and WACO last Monday and Tuesday in girls’ basketball
English Valleys 48, Pekin 41
The Panthers hosted English Valleys last Monday, November 21. The game stayed tight through the first three quarters, with Pekin holding a two-point lead at half time and the teams tied at 27 at the end of the third quarter. English Valleys outscored them by just seven points in the final quarter to take the win, 48-41.
Emma Phillips led the Panthers in scoring with 14 points, she also had nine rebounds. Brooke Miller put up 11 points for Pekin, including two from behind the line. Miller also had three rebounds and six assists. Alex Parsons scored eight, with six points coming from behind the line. Claire Roth added six points while pulling down five rebounds and having five steals.
WACO 62, Pekin 26
WACO’s return to the Southeast Iowa Super Conference’s North Division came with a dominant win over the Panthers. WACO led 16-10 after one quarter and 30-15 at halftime. The Panthers’ offense stalled in the second half, scoring just 11 points.
Alex Parsons scored eight for Pekin, Claire Roth put up six, Emma Phillips had five, Abby Guise added three, and Brooke Miller and Anna Hadley each scored two.
It was the first win for WACO over Pekin in girls’ basketball since at least 2006. All 15 previous matchups recorded by Iowa’s gobound.com website went to Pekin.
