Pekin FFA members attend National Convention

Members of Pekin FFA attended the National Convention in Indianapolis Nov. 1-3. Representing Pekin at the Convention were Brandt Latchan, Gatlin Farrier, Kasey Davis, Erica Hoy, and Kenadie Long.

On day one, they stopped at the Caterpiller Visitor Center in Peoria, Illinois on their way.

On day two, the students spent the day exploring and networking with colleges and businesses from across the country. They joined 70,000 fellow FFA members at the First General Session, where they listened to Juan Bendana discuss the steps to being the most confident versions of themselves.

Day three they toured the ADM plant and learned about grain storage, how local grain supply is impacted at a global level, and how to work toward being more sustainable and efficient. They also toured the Schakolad Chocolate Factory and learned about chocolate production and the supply chain. The day ended with attending the World’s Toughest Rodeo.

On the final day they stopped at Beasley’s Orchard before coming home. There they learned about apples, strawberries, pumpkins, and specialty crops, in addition to direct marketing to the consumer.
