Pekin girls’ get two wins, boys’ host Ruritan Relays

Girls Track — Falcon Relays, West Burlington
The Panthers girls’ track team had four event wins on their way to a Class B team victory at West Burlington’s Falcon Relays last Tuesday night, March 28. Pekin won Class B with 173 points. Danville took second with 157, Mediapolis was third with 84, WMU finished fourth with 81, WACO was fifth with 53, and New London finished sixth with 24 points.
Chloe Glosser won the 1500 in 5:18.43 and took second in the 800 in 2:43.94. Lauren Steigleder won the 3000 with a time of 12:02.28 and finished second in the 1500 with a time of 5:38.70. Anna Hadley showed her strength in the throwing events, winning the discus with a throw of 118-05 and the shot put with a throw of 32-07.50.
In individual running events, Kayse Miller took second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:22.02. Getting third place finishes for Pekin were Lauren Conklin in the 100 in 14.48, Renae Eubanks in the 400 hurdles in 1:23.92, Lexi Swearingen in the 3000 in 14:25.95, and Alex Parsons in the 800 in 2:48.98. Fourth place finishes came from Lauren Conklin in the 200 in 30.29, Claire Roth in the 400 in 1:07.69, and Erica Hoy in the 400 hurdles in 1:32.69.
Pekin had three second place finishes in field events, with Emma Phillips taking second in the discus with a throw of 90-11, Kayse Miller in the high jump with a jump of 4-04, and Claire Roth in the long jump with a jump of 15-01.00. Grace Phillips took fourth in the discus with a throw of 81-11.
The Panthers finished second in five of the seven relays: 4x100 (A. Guise, L. Reneker, R. Eubanks, K. Miller) in 57.06. 4x400 (C. Roth, A. Fariss, S. Reneker, C. Glosser) 4:25.60. 4x800 (A. Parsons, A. Fariss, B. Miller, C. Glosser) 10:35.13. Distance Medley (L. Reneker, S. Reneker, A. Fariss, B. Miller) 4:48.60. Shuttle Hurdle (E. Hoy, R. Eubanks, P. Coleman, K. Miller) 1:20.91. The sprint medley team had a fourth-place finish in 2:04.99 while the 4x200 relay finished fifth in 2:08.50.
Girls Track — Bullette Invitational, Mediapolis
The Panther girls’ track team competed in the Bullette Invitational at Mediapolis last Thursday night, March 30. Pekin won with 139 points, 31 points over second-place Fort Madison. Host team Mediapolis finished third with 77. Other teams were 4. Cedar Rapids Washington 64, 5. Highland 55, 6. Van Buren 50, 7. Cardinal 48, 8. Central Lee 37, 9. West Hancock 11.
Anna Hadley placed first in the discus throw with a throw of 117-11. Claire Roth placed first in the 400 in 1:06.07, and Chloe Glosser took first in the 800 in 2:31.04. In the relays, Pekin came away with four wins: 4x400 in 4:29.46; 4x800 in 10:30.28; sprint medley in 2:00.20; and distance medley in 4:36.32.
Lauren Steigleder finished second in the 1500 in 5:36.78 and in the 3000 in 12:18.41. Chloe Glosser finished third in the 1500 in 5:44.70. Lexi Swearingen placed third in the 400 with a time of 1:10.30, and Audrey Fariss finished third in the 800 in 2:42.01. Kayse Miller was third in the 400 hurdles in 1:21.49 and Renae Eubanks finished sixth in 1:23.51.
In field events, Claire Roth placed second in the long jump with a jump of 15-02; Anna Hadley finished third in the shot put with a throw of 32-02.00 while Haylea Oostra was fifth with a throw of 29-10.00; and Emma Phillips tied for fourth in the discus with a throw of 90-07.
Boys Track — Ruritan Relays, Pekin
The Panther boys’ track team hosted the Ruritan Relays last Monday, March 27. Pekin finished fourth with 67 points. Van Buren won with 135, Cardinal was second with 108, and North Mahaska finished third with 79. Other teams were 5. English Valleys 61, 6. WACO 48, 7. Moravia 37, 8. Lone Tree 28, 9. Sigourney 22.
Brady McWhirter had Pekin’s only wins, taking the 800 in 2:10.92 and the 1600 in 10:21.94.
Second place finishes came from JaeDon Wolver in the 400 hurdles in 59.33, and Caden Bender in the shot put with a throw of 39-01.00. The shuttle hurdle team of Will Adam, Robert Brown, Kasey Davis, and JaeDon Wolver finished second with a time of 1:12.88; and the 4x400 relay team of Will Adam, JaeDon Wolver, Nolan Glick, and Brady McWhirter took second in 3:47.54.
JaeDon Wolver got a third-place finish in the high jump with a jump of 5-8. Will Adam placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 18-02.50.
