Pekin teams have busy week of wrestling

Pekin’s wrestling teams honored senior wrestlers, managers, and cheerleaders at last Tuesday’s home quad. Blake Juhl (182) won by fall in 0:53 over Curtis Brown of Cardinal at Pekin's quad last Tuesday.
Pekin's Gannon Greiner (132) won by fall in 2:32 over Cardinal's Bradly Snook in Pekin's Quad last week.
Gavyn Brown (170) won by fall in 0:36 over Brady Reed of Moravia last Tuesday.
Reed Lauderman (113) won by fall in 5:01 over Moravia's Kaleb Rebenack.
Pekin senior Rainee Greiner competed in the home quad last Tuesday.
Logan Baker (160) won by fall in 3:20 over Lane Kool of Moravia. Baker won all three of his matches in the home quad last week.
Ryan Doud (195) won by fall in 3:26 over Caden Spring of Moravia.
Zachary Doud (120) won by fall in 3:46 over Kade Martin of Davis County.
The Pekin wrestling teams hosted a quad last Tuesday night, January 3. The Panthers faced off against Cardinal, Davis County, and Moravia.
The Panther boys’ team got one win as a team, downing Cardinal 36-29. Pekin fell to Davis County 48-30, and Moravia 42-36.

Logan Baker (160) won by fall in 0:39 over Braden Ballard. Gavyn Brown (170) won by fall in 0:40 over Brock Lewman. Blake Juhl (182) won by fall in 0:53 over Curtis Brown. Gannon Greiner (132) won by fall in 2:32 over Bradly Snook. Ryan Doud (195), and Reed Lauderman (106) each won by forfeit.

Logan Baker (160) won be fall in 0:28 over Luke Farley. Gavyn Brown (170) won by fall in 0:11 over Aries Derby. Ryan Doud (195) won by fall in 1:55 over Brayden Hartman. Zachary Doud (120) won by fall in 3:46 over Kade Martin. Blake Juhl (182) won by forfeit.
Moravia 42, Pekin 36

The Pekin girls’ wrestling team took part in the home quad also, falling to Cardinal 18-6 and ending in a 6-6 tie with Moravia.

Pekin girls’ at Highland
The Pekin girls’ wrestling team traveled to Highland last Friday, Jan. 6 where 35 teams took part in the tournament.
Pekin’s Lexa Nelson placed third in her weight and scored 9 team points. She lost by fall in Round 1 to Tipton’s Alyssa Lovell, and lost by decision in Round 2 to Highland’s Mackenzie McFarland. Nelson won by fall in 3:16 in Round 3 over IC Liberty’s Grace Philipp.
Pekin’s Payten Coleman placed fourth in her class and scored 4 team points.
Lila Miller placed second and scored 14 team points after winning by fall in 1:57 in Round 1 over Breegan Ellison of Moravia, and winning by fall in 0:26 in Round 3 over Mady Emmett of Fort Madison.
Cheryl Wise placed fourth and scored 4 team points in her weight class.
Panther teams at North Mahaska
The Panther girls’ took part in the North Mahaska Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 7 where they finished sixth with 16 points out of 12 teams. Winning was North Mahaska with 29, while E-B-F was second with 22, and Grinnell was third with 20. Cardinal finished ninth.
Peyton Coleman placed second in her weight class and scored 12 team points. She won by decision (6-1) in Round 1 over Hanah Grunig of E-B-F, and won by fall in 2:32 over Oskaloosa’s Haylee Pelong in Round 2.
Lila Miller placed second in her class and scored 4 team points after getting a win by fall in Round 3 over North Tama’s Faith Dvorak by fall in 0:43.
Lexa Nelson finished third in her class.
The Pekin boys’ wrestling team competed at the North Mahaska Invitational on Saturday also, where they finished seventh with 100 points. Winning was Solon with 211.5, and North Mahaska was second with 190.5.
Logan Baker (160) placed first and scored 25 team points after winning the first place match with a 4-11 decision over Solon’s Jackson Feuerbach. Baker also got wins in the Champ. Round 1 over Grinnell’s Teylor Doty, in the Quarterfinal Round over Pella’s Trace Hopkins, and in the Semifinal Round over Chance Angle of North Mahaska.
Blake Juhl (182) placed first and scored 30 team points. He got the win in the first place match by injury default over Kyler Ricard of E-B-F. Juhl won his Champ. Round 1 by fall over Camrin Corcorean of E-B-F, won the Quarterfinal Round over Allen Jennings of Mount Ayr, and won the Semifinal Round over Parker Jordan of Oskaloosa.
Gavyn Brown (170) placed third and scored 19 team points. Brown won by fall over Finn Gordon of Iowa City/City High JV in the Champ. Round 1, and won be fall over Cardinal’s Brock Lewman in the Quarterfinal Round. Brown won by fall in 1:24 over Kyler Jensen of Solon in the Third Place Match.
Ryan Doud (195) placed fourth and scored 13 points after getting a bye in Champ. Round 1 and winning by fall over Alex Meland of North Mahaska in the Quarterfinal Round.
Gannon Greiner (126) placed fifth and scored 13 team points. He received a bye in the Champ. Round 1, and got wins by fall in the Cons. Round 2 and Cons. Semi Round.
