Pekin track teams have three meets at the end of April

The Pekin track teams have stayed busy the past two weeks, competing in meets in the cold and rainy weather.

Panther girls’ track team competed in Mid-Prairie’s Golden Hawk Relays on Thursday, April 18

The Pekin girls’ team traveled to Mid-Prairie on Thursday, April 18 for the Golden Hawk Relays. The Panthers came out with a second-place finish with 103 points. Host Mid-Prairie won with 207, and Fairfield was third with 96.

Pekin had three wins in the meet, with the 4x800 team of Audrey Fariss, Chloe Glosser, Alex Parsons, and Krysta Sheetz winning in 10:28.48; Kayse Miller winning the high jump with a jump of 5-02, and Anna Hadley winning the discus with a throw of 115-02.

The 4x400 relay team of Krysta Sheetz, Alex Parsons, Chloe Glosser, and Audrey Fariss placed second in 4:36.48; and the distance medley team of Lauren Conklin, Kayse Miller, Audrey Fariss, and Chloe Glosser finished second in 4:45.01. Anna Hadley placed second in the shot put with a throw of 37-09.

Audrey Fariss took third in the 200m dash in 29.74, Lexi Swearingen finished third in the 400m dash in 1:11.29, and Krysta Sheetz placed third in the 800m run with a time of 2:28.92.

Pekin boys’ track team hosted the Ruritan Relays on Monday, April 22

On Monday, April 22, the Panther boys hosted the Ruritan Relays.

Brady McWhirter won the 400m dash with a time of 54.11, while Kasey Davis won the 110m hurdles in 17.32. Pekin had four relay wins, the 4x100 in 46.02, the 4x800 in 9:51.25, the sprint medley in 1:43.11, and the distance medley in 4:13.78. The Panthers swept the field events, with Will Adam winning the long jump with a jump of 19-10, JaeDon Wolver won the high jump with a jump of 5-10, Caden Bender won the shot put with a throw of 40-04.50, and Isaac Sylvester won the discus with a throw of 122-00.

Second place finishes came from Riley Smith in the 400m hurdles in 1:01.90, Caden Bender in the discus with a throw of 116-03, and the 4x400 relay team with a time of 4:18.04.

Alijah Brock placed third in the 200m dash in 26.10 and third in the long jump with a jump of 18-08, Dylan Sobaski finished third in the 400m dash in 1:01.36, Brady McWhirter finished third in the 800m run in 2:28.27, and Cal Miller was third in the shot put with a throw of 35-06.25.

Pekin boys’ and girls’ track teams competed at Sigourney Tuesday, April 23

Both Pekin track teams went to Sigourney last Tuesday to compete in the Savage Relays.

The boys’ team finished fourth with 62.5, while the girls’ team won with 88.

Conor Cloyd placed second in the 3200m run in a time of 10:17.45, JaeDon Wolver finished third in the 400m hurdles in 56.81, and the 4x800 relay team finished second in 9:17.79.

Brady McWhirter took third in the 1600m run in 4:45.01.

In the girls’ events, Anna Hadley took first in both the shot put (36-06.75) and the discus (135-07), while Kayse Miller won the high jump (5-02). The 4x800 relay team won with a time of 10:39.56.

Chloe Glosser finished second in the 1500m run with a time of 5:04.94, and the distance medley team was second in 4:39.99.

Third place finishes came from the 4x200 relay team in 1:57.92, the 4x400 relay team in 4:36.10, and the shuttle hurdle team in 1:16.43.
