Pekin’s Iron Chef team crowned champions

Pekin’s Iron Chef team of, left to right, Kale Shipley, Audra Steigleder, Abby Guise, Lexa Nelson, Rylie Nelson, Emma Bayliss, and Wyatt Cobler won the Indian Hills Iron Chef Fall Classic on October 31. They prepared a three-course ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ meal in the competition that had a theme of ‘Horror for Halloween.’

Pekin’s dessert course was ‘Audrey’s Electric End.’ It included chocolate cake with matcha buttercream frosting with white chocolate leaves, Oreo crumbles, and an Electric Spark.

The Indian Hills Iron Chef is culinary competition held at Indian Hills Community College each spring and fall for high school teams. The teams have two hours to prepare a three-course meal. A panel of judges from the IHCC culinary department evaluate the dishes on creativity, teamwork, and culinary skills.

The main course, ‘The Dentist’s Last Supper,’ was braised beef short ribs in a hearty vegetable tomato coulis over top parmesan polenta with roasted asparagus vines. The short ribs were donated to the team by the Packwood Locker.
