My name is Hailey Shultz, and I am the Outreach Coordinator for Jefferson and Wapello County Farm Bureau. One of my most rewarding responsibilities of my role is participating in the Agriculture in The Classroom program. This initiative is designed to help students understand the vital role agriculture plays in their daily lives through engaging, hands-on learning experiences.
Each classroom visit features a 30-minute lesson tailored to the age group and interests of the students. Topics range from Iowa staples like corn and hogs to cranberries, cattle, and more. Every lesson includes a fun, interactive activity that reinforces the agricultural theme, making learning both educational and enjoyable.
Teachers are invited to choose the topic, date, and time that best fits their classroom schedule. Since starting in this role, I’ve also begun organizing storytime events throughout Jefferson County to connect with children and introduce them to agriculture in a friendly, accessible way.
If you’re a teacher in Jefferson County and would like to schedule a classroom visit or learn more about the program, please reach out to me at Hailey.Shultz@ifbf.org. I’m excited to bring agriculture to life in your classroom and help students discover the importance of farming in our communities.
