Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Shumaker returned home Tuesday from Clearwater, Florida, where they had spent the winter months.
Mr. and Mrs. James Morrow, Sheila and Bev, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Vradenberg and Mike attended the wedding of Miss Connie Jo Farrier and Bob French at the Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs, Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Farrier, formerly of Brighton and granddaughter of Mrs. Charles Farrier of Brighton.
Mr. and Mrs. V.J. Hesseltine, Donald Rich and daughter Joan, a student at Central College and Doris King of Iowa City attended the Christian Witness Mission at the Elston, Tingly, Wishard Chapel Church area north of Mt. Ayr, Friday through Sunday.
Mrs. Melvine Pfeifer spent Easter weekend in the home of her son, Dan and family in Burlington. She had the misfortune to fall Saturday night and tear the ligaments in her left ankle.
Mr. and Mrs. M.H. Schlatter and their houseguest, Mrs. Bertha Manz of Junction City, Kansas, were Sunday supper guests in the Joe Davis Schlatter home in Mt. Pleasant.
Verena Widmer and Emma Hess, LaJunta, Colorado, were houseguests Thursday through Monday in the Dr. Glen Widmer home. Saturday they were dinner guests in the J.C. Wenger home and Saturday evening they, along with Mr. and Mrs. Wenger, Dr. and Mrs. Widmer, Jane, Janice, and Jim were meal guests in the Henry Widmer home.
Mrs. Ronald Bowser and children, of West Chester, spent Friday in the parental M.H. Schlatter home.
25 years ago — April, 1998
Mary Statler and Donald Rich, who were married April 11, 1948 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, were honored Sunday, April 19, 1998 for the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary. A catered luncheon at noon was served at the Wayland Community room, with the following joining the anniversary couple: Jim and Sandy Hasler, Doug and Rachel Hasler, Marla and Duncan; Joan and Dave Rodgers, Justin, Tyler and Craig; Emily Shitker; Russell and Shirley Norton; Faith Keller; Bob and Marlene Statler, Christi and Codi Sammons; Shannon and Lori Schwerin, Dustin and Megan; Albert and Anna Mae Rich; Phillip and Cara Rich; John and Teresa Mallams; Angela and Matt Mertons; Curtis Rich; Rev. Norman and Gladys Walter; and Dr. Carl and Sharon Klein. Open house for 203 guests was held from 2-4 p.m. at the Community Room. Guests were registered by Doug and Rachel Hasler. Mrs. Rich was honored with a pink rose corsage and Mr. Rich with a pink rose boutonniere. In the serving line with their parents, were daughters, Sandy and Jim Hasler and Joan and Dave Rodgers. A two-tiered cake and a floral arrangement of carnations and daisies were on the reception table. Serving at the table were Justin Rodgers, Tyler Rodgers and Craig Rodgers. Kitchen courtesies were in charge of Finley Chapel Hope Sunday School class. Special guests at the reception were Russell and Shirley Statler Norton, who were married in a double wedding with the Rich’s in 1948 and were their attendants while the Rich’s were the Norton’s attendants.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kauffman observed their 63rd wedding anniversary Saturday, April 25, at their Parkview apartment, Wayland. They were pleased to have a niece, Pat Bruwitz of Bloomington, MN spend the day with them, as well as visits from their children who live locally.
Luella Miller, Wayland, has retired after 27 years of employment as a finish operator with United Technologist Automotive in Iowa City. A retirement party was held in her honor Friday, April 24. Her special guests at the event were husband, Roy Miller of Wayland; daughter, Sherry Iaccarino of Davenport; and sons, Terry Kaufman of rural Fairfield and Ken Kaufman of Wayland. Her guests enjoyed a tour of the plant, seeing where Luella spent the past 27 years.
