According to all the signs in evidence and to the best intentions of the parties interested, Wayland is soon to have a new bakery. M.V. Eicher is giving the room adjoining the Meat Market a coat of calcimine and paint and a general house cleaning, with the understanding that it is to be occupied as a bakery. That is a good sign, isn’t it? Then Mr. B.B. Wagner of Washington was here the last of the week and again Tuesday and he informs us that he expects to move her in the near future and start a bakery in Mr. Eicher’s building and that certainly indicates the best if intentions. Mr. Wagner has had fifteen years experience as a baker. Most of the time he has been employed in the best bakeries in Washington. Having a desire to go into business for himself, he has decided to locate to Wayland. The town and community are fortunate in having a man of Mr. Wagner’s experience locate here. He deserves, and we believe he will receive, the patronage of the entire community.
For several weeks the neighbors and friends of Kenneth Goff and his family have been sympathetic observers of the great trials through which this family have been called to pass. First came the illness and death of the wife and mother, quickly followed by the serious illness of the oldest son, Vere, and during these weeks of anxiety and sorrow, Mr. Goff has been greatly retarded in his spring work on the farm. On Tuesday, Mr. Goff’s neighbors, fine men you’ll agree, with big hearts and willing hands, went to the Goff farm and disced and plowed a field of about 20 acres while their neighbor was at the bedside of his sick boy. Mr. Goff knew nothing of it until evening when Louis Rinner told him of the generous deed. He was touched very deeply by the unusual kindness of his neighbors, which will long remain with him as a pleasant memory.
