The resignation of Mr. G.R. Arthaud was regretfully accepted by the board of directors of the Peoples State Bank at their April meeting. Mr. Arthaud tendered his resignation as president and member of the board because of failing health. He had been active in banking in Winfield for around 55 years, spending most of that time as cashier of the Peoples State Bank and the last nine years as president. At the May meeting Tuesday Maynard Peterson, prominent farmer in the Winfield-Swedesburg area, was elected to fill the unexpired term of Mr. Arthaud. Charles Van Dyke was elected president of the board and Clone Swarts vice president. Other vice presidents previously elected are Fred Klopfenstein, who will also serve as chairman and Ben Galer. Bob Lindell and Don Westercamp complete the seven-member board. Mr. Van Dyke will continue in his present capacity as cashier. He has been an employee of the bank for 36 years and has been cashier for the last nine years. Other bank personnel will remain the same.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Long, Brighton, are the parents of an eight pound, four ounce daughter Kimberly Rae, born Thursday, May 3, 1973. Kimberly has a sister Carmen and brother Keith. Mrs. Long is the former Mary Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Miller, Route 5, Mt. Pleasant; and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Long, Wayland, are paternal grandparents. Carmen and Keith are staying in the Miller home while their mother is in the hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Graber were guests of honor at dinner Saturday evening at Dickey’s Prairie Home in honor of their 54th wedding anniversary with their son, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Graber and Ronnie as hosts.
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Wyse went to Des Moines, Thursday evening and met their daughter, Mrs. Larry Oswald, Beth, Elaine and Nancy of Somers, Iowa, who accompanied them home for a visit until the weekend when they were joined by Mr. Oswald returning to their home Sunday.

Ida May Ridinger, Wayland, originally from the Trenton area, celebrated her 102nd birthday Wednesday, May 6, 1998. She celebrated with three cakes that were baked in the numeral shapes of 102 and a bouquet of balloons. The cakes were baked by a granddaughter, Rebecca Barrionuevo. Family members who joined her for the day at the Stan Widmer home were daughter and husband, Cecile and Kenneth Graber, West Burlington; granddaughter, Rebecca and Fred Barrionuevo of Cedar Falls; grandson, Daniel and Betty Graber, Burlington; and hosts, granddaughter, Martha and Stan Widmer. Great-grandson Todd and Marcia Widmer of Iowa City, called with greetings from Wilmington, North Carolina. Bill and Hillary Clinton also sent greetings to Ida.
