Mr. and Mrs. Lester Hill were honored June 3 for the occasion of their 45th wedding anniversary with a basket dinner at the Wayland Legion Hall. A three-tiered decorated anniversary cake was used as a table centerpiece. The event was hosted by their children, who were present, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Bush and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Art Hill and family of Burlington, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Hill and family, Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Hill and family, Winfield, Mr. and Mrs. Harry McGuire and family, Olds, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Manning and family, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hill and sons, Linda Hill of Mt. Pleasant, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Rich and family; another son, Johnnie of Palm Springs, California, was unable to be present. Mr. and Mrs. Hill wore a corsage and boutonniere presented by their family, who also presented a gift of a picnic table to their parents. A money tree gift was presented to the honored couple by the other guests. Other guests included Mr. Hill’s mother, Mrs. Bertha Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley hill, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Crile, Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Wesely and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Sammons and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Sammons and son, Orville Pence, Mike Boal, Denise Rodd, Mrs. Alice Neff, Mrs. Mary Lampe, Dale Wohllebor, Sandra Wesley, Linda Calloway, Vickie Hill, Mrs. Garnet Sinn, Mr. and Mrs. John Sinn, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Richard, Paul Underwood of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Dwaine Sinn and Son of Wilton.
Gale Tscantz family leaving for Russia: Mrs. Adaline Tschantz had as guests Sunday for a picnic spuuer at the Wayland Legion Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hesseltine and family, Steve Dean, Steve Gruen and Doug Warner of Iowa City, Mr. and Mrs. Dwain Tschantz and family and Jodi Brown of Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Gale Tschantz, Todd and Matt of Lakewood, Colorado, Mr. and Mrs. James Tschantz, Teresa and Doug, visited with the group earlier in the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Gale Tschantz will join 24 other couples as a group from Horace Mann Educators for two weeks in Russia and other countries. Todd and Matt will stay with grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Smith, Stanwood, in the absence of their parents.
David Davison, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Davison, was named to the spring honor roll at Northeast Missouri State University, Kirksville, Missouri. To be eligible for the honor roll a student must be earning at least 12 semester hours of credit with a minimum grade-point average of 3.00.
Mrs. Arley Boese attended the 10th anniversary of the 1963 graduation class of Ottawa University held on the campus, Ottawa, Kansas, June 2 and 3. En route home she spent several days in the parental Darrell Dankof home in Hamburg, Iowa, and enjoyed a visit with her brother, Danny, whom she had not seen for a number of years. Danny brought her to her home here Wednesday, en route to his home in DePere, Wisconsin. Sheila, Brent, and Brenda Boese stayed at the Leonard Grieser home in their mother’s absence.
Mr. and Mrs. Virrel Dickson of Salem, Oregon, who spent sometime visiting Rich relatives in the Crawfordsville and Washington area were callers in the George Unkrich home Saturday evening along with Walter Jarrard.
The Kingsbury Home of Elon Boshart is nearing completion. The home was moved to the foundation Wednesday located on highway 78 at the corner of Washington Street.
Twenty-five years ago, June 6, 1948, Lucille Roth became the bride of Edwin Swartzendruber at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben R. Roth of Wayland. Mr. and Mrs. Swartzendruber celebrated their silver wedding anniversary by entertaining a number of relatives and friends on two different occasions. On Saturday evening, June 2, they were hosts at a dinner at the Iowa Frontier Café in Washington. Debbie Swartzendruber, 10-year-old daughter of the couple served as hostess. On Friday, June 8, Mr. and Mrs. Swartzendruber hosted a dinner for a number of relatives at the Stever House in Fairfield.
