1998
•Rev. Don Coffin and his wife Helen of Wayland announce the approaching marriage of their daughter Suzanne Marie Coffin to Louis William Loyd III. He is the son of Louis Loyd Jr. and his wife Cindy of Mt. Pleasant. The wedding will take place at Cedar Creek Friends Church with a reception following at Wayland City Hall.
•Renea Roth, daughter of Mark and Donna Roth, Wayland, and Neil Reichenback, Wayland, son of Doug and Paulette Reichenbach of Freeport, MI, announce their engagement and approaching wedding on July 25 at the Wayland Mennonite Church.
•Enjoying a Father’s Day picnic in Sunset Park in Washington on Sunday, June 21 were Milton and Verdella Miller and their family.
•Monte and Kim Widmer, Wayland, are parents of a daughter, Allison Skye, born June 18, 1998. Allison weighed three pounds, 12 ounces at birth at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Kim returned home Monday, but baby Allison must remain in the hospital to gain weight.
•Marilyn Hershberger has returned to her duties at the Wayland State bank following a vacation with husband Bill to California where they visited her sisters, Norman and Alice Hsu and family and Joanne and bob den Bleyker and their family.
2003
•Named to the University of Iowa dean’s list were Kirk W. Alliman and Patrick G. Yoder, both of Wayland. Named to the dean’s list at Iowa State University from Wayland were Selma Brenzink Ballew, Spanish; Julie Ann Boshart, Sociology; Rachel Rae Graber, Agricultural studies; Preston J. roth, Agricultural Engineering; Nichelle Jewell Saforek, Family and Comsumer sciences education.
•Amanda Messer of Wayland was awarded a bachelor’s degree, with a major in elementary education, at Coe College on May 25, 2003.
•Edwin Dale Swartzendruber, 78, died June 27, 2003 at Schowalter villa in Hesston, KS where he had been a patient since May, 2003.
•The City of Wayland will be celebrating the Fourth of July with a Lions Club breakfast from 6:30-9:30 a.m., antique tractor show at 10, tractor games at 10:30, and parade at 1:30 p.m. the Wayland Museum will open at noon. A kiddie tractor pull will be at 7 p.m. and fireworks display at the WACO High School will begin at dusk.
•Emily Anderson, daughter of Robert and Janice Anderson of Wayland, was a 2003 Henry County Fair Queen candidate.
2008
•Curt and Lori Wagler will open the doors to their new facility on the Wayland Industrial Park on July 4, 2008. The opening of their new business, Wagler Woodcrafts Manufacturing, will hold an open house at that time.
•Jeff and Shirley Temple of Crawfordsville are pleased to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Brittany Temple, to Marc Messer, son of Laverne and Linda Messer of Wayland.
•On June 27, 2008 a car vs. deer accident was reported near the intersection of Franklin Avenue and 210th Street. Over $2000 damage was done to one 1999 Camaro driven by Mark Turner of rural Wayland. No injuries were reported.
•Celebrate the Fourth of July in Wayland: Begin the day with breakfast at the Wayland Community Center where the Lions Club will be serving their annual sausage and pancake breakfast. The antique tractor show will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the parade will begin at 10:30 on Main Street.
•Louise Stauffer hosted the Merry Eights Pinochle Club on June 11. Audrey Kauffman had high and Marion Alliman had low. Melinda Ullery will host the July club meeting.
2013
•A severe thunderstorm Monday afternoon caused some structural damage in the Wayland area. Major damage was on Franklin Ave., approximately four miles southeast of Wayland. A utility building on the west side of W55 was demolished and a turkey barn owned by Robert Achen had the north half of its roof torn from the rafters.
•Don Wyse Boshart, 78, passed away at Parkview Home after a short battle with cancer.
•Named to the dean’s list at Iowa State University from Wayland were Rebecca Boshart, Graphic Design; Caleb Brose, Computer Engineering; Rebekah Kennelly, World Languages and Cultures; Kathryn Pusey, Early Childhood Education; and Christian Roth, Aerospace Engineering.
•Charity Lovan, Human Services, and Patricia Miller, Liberal Arts, were named to the Kirkwood Community College dean’s list for the spring 2013 semester.
•The WACO softball team got hits when it needed them for a 9-6 win over their SEISC rival Winfield-Mt. Union.
