1998
•Marlene and Floyd Drummond will be honored July 19, 1998 to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
•Joely Farmer and Tom Swenson, who will be married Aug. 22, 1998 in Fort Dodge, were honored at a prenuptial courtesy Saturday, July 11, at the Wayland State Bank basement.
•Lisa Johnson, Washington, and Jeff Wenger, Wayland, announce their engagement. The bride-elect is the daughter of Gordon and Kathy Dean and Craig and Vicky Johnson of Washington. The groom-elect is the son of Daniel and Linda Wenger, Wayland. An August 1 wedding is planned for the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church.
•Tammy Hesser and John Sybil of Wayland announce their engagement and marriage. Parents of the bride are Darrell and Jayne Borchardt, Wayland, and parents of the groom are Mary Jo and Jerry Wolfe, Cedar Rapids. An outdoor wedding will take place at the home of the bride’s parents August 15.
•LaMar and Kim Fenton have purchased a home in Mt. Union and with their two sons, Taime and Christian, will be moving in the near future. They have been living in the upstairs at the home of Kim’s parents, Delmer and Sharon Wagler.
2003
•Orval and Alberta Miller celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, July 13, with a family dinner at the Pizza Ranch in Wayland.
•Velma v. Henss, 92, of Wayland, died Sunday, July 13, 2003 at Parkview Home in Wayland.
•The Phillip Graber Farm hosted the Joe Graber reunion on July 5. David and Bonnie Graber had just returned from two years teaching in Chengdu, China.
•Louise Stauffer hosted the Merry Eights Pinochle Club on July 9. Verlee Miller had high and Bea Haberman, low. Kathryn thoma will host the august gathering.
•Geraldine rixe hosted weekend guests Mike and Linda Richenberger of Mount Prospect, Illinois while they visited friends and family in the area.
2008
•Mabel Van Winkle, 90, of Wayland, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a short illness.
•Independent Bible Church of Wayland will be holding VBS Olympics July 28-August 1.
•Barbi Roth was named to the Spring 2008 semester dean’s list at Kirkwood Community College.
•Graduating from Kirkwood Community College from Wayland were Lisa K. Liles, Administrative Assistant, and Sherry D. Pategas, Liberal Arts
2013
•Russ Yoder was presented with a 10-year Lions membership certificate.
•The descendants of John and Rebecca Meyer met for their 74th annual reunion at the Wayland Community building for an enjoyable visit and a bountiful noon feast.
•With help from the City of Wayland, Wayland Economic Development Corporation and an Enhance Henry County Community $2500 grant awarded last December, the Wayland Youth Center was recently able to repair the roof of their building to eliminate leakage.
•Dick and Orpha (Hartzler) Yoder of Wayland, were united in marriage on July 20, 1963 at the Wellman Mennonite Church in Wellman. They plan on celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary by taking a vacation with their family.
•The WACO Warriors softball team defeated the WMU team 10-1 July 10, earning a spot in the regional semifinals. Conwell held the Wolves to five hits and one walk for one earned run for the night. She struck out 11.
