•Ivy Lantz was presented tickets from Make-A-Wish Foundation of Iowa to fulfill her wish to visit Disney World in Florida.
•Howard and Mary Bean have returned to Wayland, purchasing the Ralph Gibson home on East Front Street. Howard will teach computer education at Washington Junior High School and Mary is employed as secretary at the F&M Mutual Telephone Company.
•Helen Gray hosted the Payne reunion at Parkview Nursing Home on July 12.
•Milton Miller, 83, of rural Wayland, died July 19 at University Hospitals in Iowa City.
•Millie Miller, 90, Parkview Home, died July 19 at the Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
2003
• Holly Kaila and Tracy Roth, both of Wayland, were married Saturday, March 15, 2003 at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church in Wayland.
•July 23, Wayland will be home to one of the largest demonstrations of drainage equipment to ever4 come to Southeast Iowa. IC Tiling & Excavating will host a comprehensive demonstration from 3-7 p.m.
•Lions Club president Robert Meyer and sponsoring Lion Dale Swartzendruber inducted Max Roth into the Wayland Lions Club.
•Lions Club members Terry Kaufman, Mark Janecek, Melvin Koehn, Ron Mast, Robert Meyer, Kenneth Miller, Carol Shumaker, Dale Swartzendruber and John Swartzendruber were all awarded pins for perfect attendance for the past year.
•Outgoing Lions Club president Ron Mast provided turkey tenderloins at a potluck supper at the Lions Club on Tuesday, July 15. He thanked Brian Meyer for doing the grilling.
2008
•Matt and Jenni Slagel are the parents of a new baby son. Gavin Robert was born June 28, 2008 and weighed six pounds and eight ounces. Grandparents are Kelly and Veronica Slagel, Dwight and Nancy Diers, and Bob and Connie Boyer. Great-grandparents are Norman and Ermadine Boshart, Warren Slagel, Mary Kay Diers, Sylvia Harrison and Bob and Ruth Harrison.
•On Saturday, July 12, descendants of the Henry and Leona Leichty family gathered at the Parkview Community Room for a catered lunch. They came from several states to reminisce and renew acquaintances.
•The Wayland Study Club met Monday, July 19 at the home of Darlene Mann. Those attending were Ellen Clark, Vivian Hildebrand, Nelma McGuire, Virginai Soto, Marion Alliman, Ella Ritz and Carol Davis. Darlene Mann’s daughter, Barb, who is visiting from Minnesota was a special guest.
•The United State Achievement Academy announces that Tad Morrow of Wayland has been recognized as a student of excellence in History and Government. This s a prestigious honor very few students can hope to attain.
2013
•Jeff M. Evans, Sheila A. Evans, and Megan Darice Waterhouse, all of Wayland, have been named to the President’s List for the spring 2013 semester at William Penn University in Oskaloosa.
•Roberta Elaine Wyse, 80, of Wayland died Friday, July 26, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.
•The annual Lions Club Fourth of July breakfast set a new record for attendees and contributions.
•Stan Meyer reported to the Lions Club on the Leo Club at WACO High School that recently received a 10-year anniversary patch.
