1998
•Howard and Mary Bean, Jody, Amy and Noah have moved from Charles City to the home they purchased from the Ralph Gibson’s at 302 E. Front Street. Mr. Bean will be teaching computer education at the Washington Junior High School and Mrs. Bean is employed as secretary at the Farmers and Merchants Mutual Telephone company.
• Ralph and Inger Gibson have moved from 302 E. Front Street to the home at 312 E. railroad, which they purchased from Verda Reschly.
•Joe and Pearl Beachy have moved from their home on W55 North to their Parkview Apartment, which has been recently completed. Terry and Gayla Rodgers have purchased the Beachy property.
•Millie Stutzman Miller, 90, a resident of Parkview Home, Wayland, passed away July 19, 1998, at the Henry County Health Center.
•The family members of the late John R. and Katie Wenger met for a reunion Saturday, July 19, at the Wayland Park for a potluck at noon.
2003
•WACO’s Christian Grieser played in the 2003 Shrine Bowl in Ames Saturday, July 26.
•The movie, Ruby Bridges, will be shown in Wayland’s West Park on Friday, Aug. 1, 2003. This event is sponsored by Main Street Grocery.
•The Wayland Area Antique Tractor Club toured the Kinze Manufacturing Plant at Williamsburg for their July 14 meeting.
•Reston Roth, of Wayland, a junior in the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department at ISU, was selected to receive the J.B. Davidson Scholarship for the 2003-2004 school year.
•Josephine Green’s three daughters, Rose Jaynes, Margaret Philips, and Debbie Holden surprised their mom with a visit last week.
2008
•In the WACO school district upcoming board election, Todd Meyer and Gary Brose are running uncontested for the positions of Mark Hotchkiss and Shari Janecek.
•First time Superintendent Greg Ray has started his duties at the WACO Community Schools.
•Christa Martin of Marion has been promoted to Director of Program Specialist at Rockwell Collins Government Systems in Cedar Rapids. She is the daughter of Jean Roth and the late Ron Roth.
• The ET/OD Boshart Reunion was held in the Wayland Community Center July 26 with 53 family members present.
•Luther Edward Brown, Jr., age 73, of rural Wayland, died July 28, 2008 at the University Hospitals and Clinics following a lengthy illness.
2013
•Abbey and Jon McElroy of Wayland welcomed a new daughter, Samantha Janette, born Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. She weighed eight pounds, nine ounces.
•A fifth runner has joined the WACO cross-country team, ensuring that there will, in fact, be a WACO team. There will be three girls and two boys on the team, which will be coached by Cinda Blake.
•Klinton Garrett, son of Mark and Karen Garrett of rural Wayland participated in the Southeast Iowa Final Drive at the Des Moines County Fair Sunday, July 28. He had the Grand Champion Ewe at the Henry County Fair.
