•Papers for the two positions open in the WACO Community School District have been returned by Bill Edwards, Director District 1, and David Pomeroy, Director District III.
•James and Kathryn Stoops were honored for 47-1/2 years of marriage July 31 with a courtesy at the Fern Cliff Evangelical Free Church.
•Willis and Susan Troyer observed their 63rd wedding anniversary on Sunday, August 7.
1998
•Kristen Mast left Aug. 13 for Merida, Mexico, where she will spend the 1998-1999 school year as an exchange student.
•Mr. and Mrs. Orval Miller attended the wedding of Mindi Lynn Grieser and Rev. Bruce Cornwell August 8 in Greenville, Illinois. Howard and Linda Grieser are Mindi’s parents. The newlyweds will live in Hannibal, Missouri where Rev Cornwell will take up the ministry.
•Milburn Gerig has moved to an apartment in the latest Parkview addition.
•Mary Lee Romkey has moved from Way Mar Apartments to the Chesapeake Apartment complex in Mt. Pleasant.
2003
•Two exhibitors dominated the Milking Shorthorn Show August 9 at the Iowa State Fair. Halpin Farms of Cullorn, Illinois took eight prizes, challenged by Chris Leichty of Wayland, who won four.
•Rob and Jennifer Wells of Craig, Colorado spent the week of July 13 in Iowa visiting grandparents Don and Mary Rich of Wayland.
•Miss Stephany Shumaker and Mr. Tony Messer, both of West Des Moines, were united in marriage. Tony is the son of Gene and Darla Messer of Wayland.
2008
•The Wayland Community Clinic has a new pitched roof. The proceeds from the WEDC Memorial Day Breakfast went toward the project. The old flat roof is now history.
•The WACO graduating class of 1968 held their 40th reunion at Sirloin Stockade in Mt. Pleasant. Twenty class members were present.
2013
•Stan Meyer and Kathy Henss were married Aug. 25, 1963 at the Wayland Mennonite Church. The family will gather Aug. 24 for a 50th anniversary celebration.
•Matthew F. Ancell has been promoted to the rank of master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He is the son of Shari Bond of Wayland Road, Wayland, and Frank Ancell of Muscatine.
•Duane Joseph Roth passed away in San Diego, California, following a July 21 accident while on a bicycle ride. He was born Nov. 24, 1949, in Wayland, the son of Max and Berniece Roth. He was a 1968 graduate of WACO.
