•Tonya Simmering, bride-elect of Doug Vislisel, was honored at a prenuptial courtesy at the Joe Alliman home. The honored guest chose her Tupperware gifts from a display shown by Betty Brooks.
•Frances Miller and Ed Kauffman have both returned home from Mercy Hospital. They were both in the hospital to undergo heart bypass surgery.
•Lavina Freyenberger is a patient in the hospital, being treated for a hip fracture.
1998
•Tony Hooper placed in the first round competition at the Iowa State Fair Bill Riley Talent Show, and advanced to the semi final competition.
•A large barn owned by Ledru Freyenberger on Baxter Avenue, north of the Joe Corman home, was destroyed by fire.
•Wanda L. Tate, 59, passed away Aug. 12 at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Survivors include a son, Raymond Lamb, and three grandchildren.
2003
•The Class of 1939 that graduated from Wayland High School met for their annual reunion.
•Glen and Margaret Richard of Mt. Pleasant will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with a family dinner. They were married Aug. 31, 1938 at the home of the bride’s parents, Ed and Lizzie Wenger, of Wayland.

•Mr. and Mrs. David Roth are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Dorothy Graber and David Roth were married Aug. 31, 1958 at Eicher Mennonite Church near Wayland.
•Nineteen-year-old Isaac Stauffer won $3000 for his tap routine to “Ladies Choice” in the Bill Riley Talent Show at the Iowa State Fair.

•Esther W. Boshart, 91, formerly of the Wayland area died Friday, Aug. 9, 2013 at Greencroft Healthcare.
•Linda Jane Graber Riley, 71, of Washington and formerly of Wayland, passed away Aug. 12, 2013.
•Kelly Rae Walters Liddell and Troy Nelson Liddell were killed in an accident on Aug. 10, 2013.
