1993
•Kerri Alvine, 9, has advanced to the semifinal round of Bill Riley’s 34th annual State Fair Talent Sprouts at the 1993 Iowa State Fair.
•Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Seagren, of Dixon Illinois, spent several days as houseguests in the Arlis VanSant home.
•Doug Phillips of Keosauqua has purchased and is razing the 160x24 shed that had been owned by Dale Widmer at the city limits on Hwy 78 east. The shed had been used to brood turkeys and was built in 1950.
1998
•Wayland Fire Department Rescue Unit answered a call Aug. 19 to the Betty Brooks home for medical assistance. She was taken to University Hospital in Iowa City, having suffered a heart attack and stroke. She is awaiting bypass surgery.
•Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bachman will observe their 60th wedding anniversary. Freida Hirschy and Earl Bachman were married Sept. 2, 1938.
•Carolyn Marie Morris, and her eight-year-old daughter Evelyn Mae Morris, were transported to the hospital where they were treated and released following an accident at the intersection of 120th and Delaware Street. Glen Dale Nebel was backing onto Delaware to turn around. As he was backing up, he collided with an eastbound vehicle driven by Morris.
2003
•David and Jennifer Sterba are grandparents again. Lindsey Marie Imhoff was born August 13. She is the daughter of Danielle and Brandon Imhoff of Keota. Lindsey has a two-year-old sister, Lauren, to also welcome her home.
•The Wayland Class of 1939 met recently for their annual reunion. Anna Mae Martin Ware planned a day at her home on the Burlington Golf Course.
•Merry Eights Pinochle Club met in the home of Kathryn Thoma on August 13. Melinda Ullrey was a guest. Bea Haberman won high prize and Virginia Soto got low prize.
2008
•Wayland Lions Club president Swartzendruber installed Jay Meyer as a new member of the Club.
•Kathryn Ellen Gugel, 76, passed away Aug. 21, 2008 at her home in Washington following a brief battle with cancer.
2013
•Suzanne Coffin and Steve Miller, both of Wayland, were united in marriage June 1, 2013 at Cedar Creek Friends Church north of Salem.
•John Van de Walker graduated from Southeastern Community College with a diploma in Auto Mechanics.
•Margie Dolores West, 81, of Wayland passed away at her home Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013 surrounded by family.
