Elmer Meyer of Wayland has earned a regular place on the basketball team at Parsons College, Fairfield. When Huddleston, the regular center on the team lost eligibility, Meyer was shifted to the center position, and he has been playing it in great shape in the last four games, three of which have been won by the Parsons team. Coach Glenn Devine of the Parsons quintet has procured a special headgear for Elmer, which permits him to wear his spectacles when playing, thus doing away with the handicap, which his poor eyesight had been to him in the past. In a recent contest put on by the “Peira,” the Parsons yearbook, Meyer was chosen as the wittiest person in college by the vote of the student body.
Mrs. Zear Hinshaw returned from Packwood and Ottumwa where she has been visiting friends this past week.
C.K. Schantz has the contracts for five new houses to begin with this spring. This looks like the beginning of a good building program for the season.
Frank Goldsmith has moved to his new home in the east part of town, and comes very near being a citizen of Wayland. His property is just outside of the corporate line so Frank cannot run for Mayor.
Misses Bessie Allen and Mabel Mitchell have returned from Colorado, where they have been for several months. They have purchased a millinery and art store in Morrison, Illinois, and will go to that city next week to take charge of the business.
