•Bob and Krista Gaal, of rural Wayland, are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Marissa Rana. She was born Sept. 5 and weighed seven pounds, one ounce. She was welcomed home by brother Braden, age two-and-a-half.
•Mr. and Mrs. Warren Schlatter attended a surprise birthday supper Aug. 23 honoring Scott Swartzendruber at the Golden Coral in Iowa City.
•Mr. and Mrs. Brian Blumhagen and family have moved back to their Wayland home from Alaska. Mr. Blumhagen received an Army medical discharge and will return to Iowa Wesleyan to complete his RN.

•Robert and Mildred Freyenberger’s family were visitors over the Labor Day weekend to help their parents move to Way Mar Apartments.
•Tom and Irene Stewart, Bernice Wyse, and Wes and Evelyn Wyse were recent guests in the Max Wyse home.
•Visitors in the Elmer and Josephine Schrock home to visit and attend Old Threshers were Elmer’s sister-in-law Evelyn Schrock; his sister, Mabel McKittrick and her son Jim and wife; and Jim and Janice McKittrick.

•Wilma Roth, formerly of Wayland, received word that Margaret Barrett Vuocolo Davis, longtime resident of Florida passed away July 25.
•Edith Louise Diers, 95, of Wayland, died Wednesday, Sept. 3 at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.
2008
•Relatives in the Wayland area received word of the death of Walter “Pinky” Schadt.
2013
•The Clarence Wenger family farm was recently added to the Iowa Century Farms Register. Born on the dairy farm, Clarence, 88, and Dorothy, 86, still reside on the farm today.
•The newest face behind the window at the Wayland Post Office is Amanda Streigle of Sigourney.
•Donna Swartzendruber, 56, of Wayland, died Sept. 9, 2013 in Billings, Montana.
