•Denett Kay Beck became the bride of Curtis R. Swan, son of Herb and Lois Swan of Wayland.
•Karen Hultquist, who celebrated her 40th birthday Sept. 12, was feted at several occasions over the weekend.
•Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Meyer, Larry Feddersen and Kari rode their horses to Fort Madison Rodeo, leaving Wednesday and camping that night near Salem.
•Ellen Clark returned home Sept. 5 from Fresno, California, where she had been called by the death of her sister-in-law, Ruena Roth.

•Visitors in the Bea Haberman home were daughters Pattie Stoner, Davenport, and Bobbie and Jim Springborn, Sugar Grove, Illinois.
•Mrs. Carol Turner has moved into the Way-Mar Apartments. She is employed at Parkview Home.
•Dick Schlatter attended the funeral for Jerry Senters, former WACO teacher and coach, in Iowa Falls.
•Weekend guests in the Edith Hileman home were Patty and Roger Rullman, Stephanie Rullman and Angela Burkhardt, Rachel Sue and Nicholas Adam. They were here to attend the wedding of Shelly Hileman and Daniel Walderbach.

•Carissa Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Miller, was named 2003 WACO Homecoming queen. Brandon Achen was named king.
•Stanley and Martha Widmer are grandparents of a new granddaughter, Claire Elise. Her parents are Todd and Marcia Widmer of Iowa City.
•WACO beat WMU in varsity football, 46-0. Brendan Grieser had 136 yards and two touchdowns.

•Former WACO athlete, Javan Freyenberger, is a member of the Simpson College football team

•Rachel Wyse, formerly of Wayland, will celebrate her 90th birthday on Sept. 25, 2013.
•Donna Swartzendruber, 56, of Wayland, died Sept. 9, 2013 in Billings, Montana.
•John Swartzendruber, 83, of Wayland, died Sept. 14, 2013 at his home in Wayland.
