1993
•The Wayland Fire Department responded to a call Friday, Sept. 24 to the LeRoy Kaufman Farm when a building that was used to raise dogs was burning. A retainer wall acted as a buffer and kept the fire from spreading to the part where the dogs were housed. At least 40 dogs died of smoke inhalation.
•Candidates for WACO 1993 Homecoming queen are Renea Roth, Hope Pomeroy, and Denise Conrad.
•A public benefit supper for the Charles Scott family will be held at the Wayland Mennonite Church on October 6. The Scotts lost their home and possessions in a recent fire.
1998
•Mr. and Mrs. Bud Fort of Wayland were guests of honor at a supper hosted by their family at the Sirloin Stockade in Mt. Pleasant in honor of their 25th anniversary.
•WACO wins homecoming game in four overtimes, 17-14, over English Valleys. The teams were tied at seven at the end of regulation play, with each scoring a touchdown in the third overtime. WACO’s Dan Wolf kicked the winning field goal in the fourth overtime.
•Angela Unkrich competed in the East Waterloo Invitational Diving Competition on Sept. 26. Angela placed first in the 11 dive meet.
2003
•Guests in the Marion Alliman home were Stephen and Susan Baumgartner of Convoy, Ohio, Pat Michael of Pandora, Ohio, and Mark and Megan Alliman of McComb, Ohio. They came to attend the funeral of Maxine Ralston.
2008
•Bob Lindell of New London and Gerry Klopfenstein of Wayland will present their program, “The Last Days of World War II” at the New London Christian Church.
•There’s a new face behind the front desk at Farmer’s and Merchants Mutual Telephone Company. Drop in and meet Janet McIntyre. Janet and her husband Lloyd live southeast of Wayland.
2013
•Jaelyn Unternahrer and Mitchell Edgar were crowned WACO Homecoming queen and king.
•Volunteers and city employees set up the new playground equipment in Wayland Central Park.
