•Renea Roth was crowned 1993 WACO Homecoming Queen during ceremonies at the football field Friday afternoon. Attendants were Hope Pomeroy and Denise Conrad. Roth’s escort was Jason Rebling.
•Richard Weigert purchased the Max Bates property in Trenton at public auction for $38,000.
•Phyliss Hartzler of South Dakota is staying with her mother, Lavina Freyenberger at her Parkview Apartment, after she was dismissed from Parkview Home. Mrs. Feryenberger is recuperating from a broken hip.
•Newlyweds, James and Melissa Smith have moved into the apartment in the Geraldine Richenberger apartment house. Both are employed at Pamida, Mt. Pleasant.
1998
•The Wayland City Council has been able to hire another police officer. Andy Birzer was sworn in and began his duties October 5.
•Lois Nebel has returned home from Arvada, Colorado where she was a guest in the home of her sister, Bonnie and Darell Land.
•Evelyn Garrett, Wayland, and Jane Garrett, Des Moines, recently accompanied Wilbur and Sharon Roth on a sightseeing trip to London.
•Gerry and Lois Klopfenstein moved to the property at the corner of South Washington and West Third that they purchased from Lula Roth and the late Lloyd Roth.

•The Wayland Fire and Rescue responded to a turkey house fire on Ash Ave. October 2.
2008
•Alliant Energy’s “Branching Out” program awarded a $2000 Trees Forever Grant to the City of Wayland and WEDC. Trees between Industrial Park and North Plains subdivision were planted October 1.
•Maxine Elaine Gingerich Burden, known as Nonnie to many, of LaPorte, Texas passed way Sept. 11, 2008 from lung cancer.
2013
•Farmers Oil Company, Inc. closed out the oldest business in Wayland, with their last day being Oct. 4, 2013. Cobb Oil of Brighton has assumed ownership and operation of the business.
•Bea Haberman was visited by her sister-in-law, Betty Jo Haberman Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska.
•Bonnie Hirschy, 82, of Wayland died Sept. 30, 2013 at the Parkview Home in Wayland.
