•Vern Doudna, age 89, died Jan. 27 at Blue Grass, at the home of his grandson.
•Lela F. Miller, age 87, of Keota died Jan. 28 at Parkview Home.
1994
•Jodi Messer of Wayland was named to Coe College Dean’s List for the 93-94 fall semester.
•Edie Nebel of Wayland, and Lori Graber of Crawfordsville, are giving a piano concert at Sugar Creek on Feb. 6.
•James L. Hodges, age 68, died Jan. 31, 1994.
2004
•HCHC and Wayland Clinic to partner. Family Nurse Practitioner Certified Susan Chance will staff the clinic.
•Recent births in the area are Lilly Christine, born Jan. 20 to Kevin and Lisa Clark; Griffin Robert, born Jan. 19 to Paul and Lynn Humphreys; Amaya Rae Gillespie, born Jan. 13 to Jessica VanDeWalker and Bobby Gillespie; Morgan December, born Jan. 15 to Joe and Lynn Grelk.
2009
•Larry D. Roth has opened Midwest Memories Museum and Shoppe in the former Wayland Hardware Store. Larry has been collecting agricultural antiques for over 30 years. He rented the west side of the old hardware store building a year ago and began realizing his dream of opening a museum.
•Carrie Payne is a new business owner on Wayland Main Street, having purchased the former G. Rodgers Salon. Carrie’s Cuts and Curls is in the first office location of the building.
•Named to the Iowa State University 2008 fall Dean’s List from Wayland were Jared Achen, Joshua Sheets, and Jami Lynn Yoder.
2014
•Rex McGuire was named the Leroy Meyer Award recipient on Jan. 23, 2014 for outstanding volunteerism and support of economic development.
•Ron and Barbi Roth outlined the history of the Wayland Youth Center to the Wayland Lions Club. They implemented the youth program eight years ago with eight other members of the community.
