An open house was held to celebrate the 80th birthday of Mrs. Ora Swan on Sunday afternoon, March 11, at her home. Sixty relatives and friends greeted Mrs. Swan with the happy returns of the day.
Mrs. Duane Alliman entertained a group of ladies in her home Thursday afternoon, March 8 in honor of her mother, Mrs. Addie Davison on her75th birthday. Those present to enjoy the afternoon with Mrs. Davison were Mrs. Mary Ericks, Mrs. Fern Holub, Mrs. Ethel Hauenstein Mrs. Nina Starr, Mrs. Opal Hult, Mrs. Anna Freese, Mrs. Reita Owen, Mrs. Lenora Miller, Mrs. Donna Wilson, Mrs. Helen Rugg, Mrs. Cathalene Stogil, and Mrs. Dorothy Wagner. Refreshments of birthday cake and ice cream were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Alliman and her sister, Mrs. Wagner.
Mr. and Mrs. Benjie Roth, Wayland, are the parents of a seven pound, nine and a half ounce daughter, Renae Ann, born March 9, 1973 at the Henry County Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Renae has a sister, Karma, and a brother, Kevin. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. David Yoder, Harper, Kansas; and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wm. Roth, Route 2, Wayland are paternal grandparents. Great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Sam Nebel and Mrs. Mary Roth.
Mrs. Ora Swan returned home Wednesday after spending several weeks with a relative, Mrs. Winifred Dummings in Sarsota, Florida. Mrs. Swan’s daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Aurit of Cleveland, Ohio, drove to Florida, and they and Mrs. Swan did sightseeing before returning to Wayland, where the Aurits spent several days, after which they returned to their Ohio home.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Thoma and Pat, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Groff of Washington, Bill Thoma of Mt. Pleasant, were guests in the Eileen Ferrell home, Mt. Pleasant, Sunday, where they joined Mrs. Ferrell’s houseguest, Mrs. Charles Geary of St. Paul, Minnesota, as dinner guests. Monday evening, Mrs. Ferrell and her daughter Mrs. Geary of St. Paul were supper guests in the Thoma home in Wayland.
Jacob Conrad has returned to his Wayland home from Burlington, where he spent the winter months.
Mrs. Eda Boshart hosted a birthday dinner Sunday honoring her grandson Mike Boshart of Iowa City. Sharing the occasion with Mr. Boshart were Mrs. Boshart and Stasi, Mrs. Martha Boshart and Jeff of Washington.

Millie Miller will observe her 90th birthday March 21. She will be celebrating with family members. Her children are Evelyn (Mrs. Ray) Yeackley, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Keith Miller, Nampa, Indiana; Earlis Miller, Caldwell, Indiana; Betty (Mrs. Leonard) Grieser, Wayland; Wima (Mrs. Maynard) Steckly, Seward, Nebraska; and Janice (Mrs. Lonnie) Roth, Spokane, Washington.
Elmer and Josephine Schrock were honored at a surprise anniversary dinner Sunday, March 8 for the observance of their 45th wedding anniversary at the Larry Richard home. Other guests were John and Michelle Danker and Micah, Brian and Denise Baldosier, Amy Richard and Katelyn.
Todd and Marcia Widmer of Iowa City and Steve Freyenberger, Wayland, attended the Big Ten tournament in Chicago last week. They were house guests in the home of Scott and Laura Miller while in the Windy City.
