•Kay Overton escaped serious injury when her Jeep hit frost on the highway and she lost control.
•James and Kimberly (Krabill) Trent are parents of a new baby. Nicholas Jace was born Dec. 22, 1998.
•Matt and Susan Whatley are parents of a new baby girl. Taylor Elizabeth was born Feb. 1, 1999.

•Over five inches of snow fell on Feb. 2; school was canceled Monday and had a two-hour delay Tuesday.
•Denis Stauffer and John Widmer announced the engagement of their daughter, Joni Stauffer to Wyatt Glandon. A July wedding is planned.
•Benjamin Leichty received a Pioneer Agronomy Scholarship at ISU.

•Pvt. Joseph H. Sterba of Wayland graduated from boot camp/Cavalry Scout training in Jan. 22 at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
•Pattie Stoner of Aurora, Illinois, and Bobbie Springborn of Sugar Grove, Illinois, spent a weekend with their mother, Bea Haberman, to celebrate their birthdays.
•Larry and Pat Meyer celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Feb. 8.
2014
•Mark Dugger’s WACO Industrial Arts program received a $2000 grant from the Southeast Iowa Builders Association. The money will fund costruction materials for classes.
•Gene and Darla Messer of Wayland, and Tom and Ruth McAllister of Crawfordsville, are grandparents to a new baby girl. Maelie Joyellen McAllister, daughter of Chad and Stephanie McAllister, was born Dec. 21, 2013.
•Gene and Darla Messer of Wayland have a new grandson. Brandt Nolan Duffie was born Dec. 18, 2013, to Ryan and Natalie Duffie of Mt. Pleasant.
