•WACO’s All-Orchestra concert was held April 18. Approximately 75 string students performed. Senior Rosemary Skriver and Katelyn White were honored with the National School Orchestra Award.
•Linda L. Bean, age 74, died April 26, 2014 at her residence following a short battle with cancer.

•Rebecca Boshart was recognized by Gov. Chet Culver for outstanding academic achievement at the annual Governor’s Scholar Recognition Ceremony held in Des Moines.

•Jake Gardner has been chosen by Post 401 to attend Boys State in June.
•Katie Boshart and Christopher Noll have announced their engagement and upcoming July 10 wedding.
•Daniel Wolf and Hannah Binder will be wed June 12 in Colorado. A reception will be held in Wayland July 2.

•Dan Rumachik was sworn in as Wayland’s new police officer by Mayor Bradley Roth and Police Chief Mike Smith.
•Brian Carlos Meyer has graduated from Iowa State University.

•Fire destroyed a barn on the Bruce Eichelberger property on Fourth Street.
•Scott and Rhonda (Roth) Taylor are the parents of a boy, Michael Levi, born May 5.

•Michael D. Stauffer and Julia D. Alderfer have announced their engagement and upcoming May 12 wedding.
•Keith and Trudy (Briggs) Rich are the parents of a new baby girl. Renee Lynn was born April 28.
1984
•Patricia Fisher and sons, Robert, 12, and Scott, 11, suffered carbon monoxide poisoning when high winds loosened pipes on a gas furnace. A neighbor drove them to the hospital.
•David L. Rodgers, age 31, escaped serious injury in a one-vehicle accident on May 5.
