- · Qualifying for the state track meet from WACO was Braden Blake in the 800m run, Rosemary Skriver in the high jump, Jennie Greene in the long jump, and the 4x100 relay team.
- WACO High School band and choir held their last concert of the school year. Tylar Swanson was awarded the Iowa Choral Director’s Association Outstanding Vocal Performer Award, and Rosemary Skriver received the John Philip Sousa Band Award.
2009
- James Pusey, son of Robert and Wendy Pusey of Wayland, graduated with honors from Iowa State University on May 9 with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication. He is planning to travel to India in June and July as part of a cultural exchange program.
- Mike and Jen Miller announce the birth of their first child, a daughter. Madison Joyce Miller was born Feb. 23, 2009.

- Marlene Leichty was one of 75 people chosen to “dress” a Herky for the 75th anniversary of Nile Kinnick Stadium. She did “Golfer Herky” who found a home at Brown Deer Golf Course.
- Wayland Pizza Ranch owner John Mohr has named Isaac Roth as manager.

- Rebecca Alliman and Robert George were married May 21, 1999.
