- Those participating in the Memorial Day Service at the Wayland Central Park on Monday, May 26 were Clayton Reitz, David Rodgers, Russell Davison, Andrew Finke, Jim Stauffer, Curt Eddy, Don Davison, Terry Farmer, Craig Rodgers, and Melanie Imhoff who played taps.
- The groundbreaking of the new Industrial Park East on Highway 78 in Wayland was held on Memorial Day by members of the Wayland Economic Development Group.

- Brendan Grieser received a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education at Coe College on May 10. He is the son of Doyle and Barb Grieser.
- Max Graber, age 80, died Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Parkview Home in Wayland.

- Veva Lenora (Krieger) Brimhall, age 89, died May 20 at HCHC.
- Dr. Darrell Smith, WACO Supt., recognized board members at the meeting. Retirees Vicki Cline, Terry Wilson, and Jeannette Griessel were also recognized.

- Angela Unkrich received a diving scholarship from Northwestern University.

- John Schrock graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in Elkhart.
- Elizabeth Reese, freshman at Northwestern college in St. Paul, will travel on a 63-member choir tour to Norway and Sweden for 15 days.

- WACO’s Kevin Roth won both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash at the State Track Meet.
- Lyndon and Elaine Leichty are parents to Gregory Ryan, born May 28, 1989.

- Teresa L. Hulme graduated May 5 from Iowa School for the Deaf.
- WACO staff honored Lois Jones and Donna Fletcher upon their retirement.
