Alanna Morrow, daughter of Greg and Jackie Morrow, was named Second Runner-Up in the Sweet Sixteen contest at the 2009 Midwest Old Threshers Reunion in Mt. Pleasant on Sept. 6.

The Wayland Youth Center will be holding their Fall Fun Fest on Sept. 18. Proceeds will benefit the Center.
Donald Earl Brockway, age 79, died Sept. 9, 2004, at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City.
1999
Beulah Osborne celebrated her 76th birthday on Sept. 7. Cheryl and Jimmy Addison hosted a barbecue in her honor.
Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Wyse hosted a picnic barbecue in their garage for Leslie Saltzman of Phoenix, Arizona on Sept. 6.
Dr. and Mrs. Paul Birney, daughter Stacy, and granddaughter Vanessa have concluded a visit with their mother and grandmother Vivian Hildebrand. They also visited her sister and husband and brother’s family. They enjoyed attending the Sweet Corn Festival while here.
Colette Yutzy, daughter of Mark and Susan Yutzy, has been selected to sing in the A Cappella Choir and College Community Chorus at Central College in Pella.
1994
Fire destroyed the D & D Automotive and TSB Woodworking buildings on Wayland’s south side of Main Street on Sept. 8, 1994. Unseen gasoline fumes are being sited as the cause of the explosion.
Neal and Martha Roth will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house on Sept. 18. Neal Roth and Martha Wenger were married Sept. 17, 1944, in Wayland.
Sonja Roth hosted a surprise birthday party on Aug. 28 honoring Brad Roth on his 50th birthday.
Gerald and Kathryn Nebel traveled to Tucson, Arizona to visit their daughter, Bethene and her family. Bethene is beginning employment as a lecturer at the University of Arizona.
1989
Mel and Bea Haberman went to Omaha, Nebraska on the Amtrak for the weekend. They were joined on Amtrak by their daughters, Bobbie Springborn and Pattie Stoner.
Rev. and Mrs. Richard Wenger left Sept. 14 for their Oregon home, concluding a visit in the area with his parents, Harold and Stella Wenger, and other relatives and friends.
Warren Bergh accompanied winter friends from Newton to an Oleander Acres, Texas, reunion at St. Paul’s Nazarene Church, Kansas City, Missouri.
