A benefit for the family of Saleum “Sal” Brown is being planned for Nov. 15 at the WACO High School. Sal died from injuries in a car accident on Sept. 28.

Zachary Liles, age 19, of Wayland died Oct. 6 as a result of an auto accident.
WACO received a $5000 grant to be used for preschool tuition.
The Wayland Fire Department hosted an Open House on Oct. 6. The Air Care Helicopter from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics made a surprise visit.

The Wayland Fire Department fought a barn fire at the Harold Miller farm. Assistance from Miller Plumbing’s backhoe and Northridge Construction’s uni-loader, used to move hay, helped control the fire.
Edna Gebelin Nelson, age 83, died Oct. 1 at Yucaipa, California.

Audrey Ann Roth, age 21, died Oct. 6, 1984, from injuries suffered in a car-snowplow accident on Feb. 10, 1983.
WACO School Board offered $25/year raise in teacher base pay, countering teacher’s proposal of increase from $12,950 to $14,000 base pay.
