2014

Clarence and Dorothy Wenger are celebrating 70 years of marriage. They were married Dec. 25, 1944, at the bride’s home in Trenton. Their children are Carol (Ed V.) Miller of Kalona, Don (Candy) Wenger of California, Jane (Gary) DeYarman of California, Darla (Gene) Messer of Wayland, and Susan (Mark) Yutzy of Wayland.

Max Wyse of rural Wayland celebrated his 90th birthday on Nov. 29 with his immediate family.

2009

Yvonne (Bonnie) Edwards, age 82, of Wayland, died Dec. 10, 2009, following a short illness.

2004

WACO Drill Team competed at state and came away with a Division I rating.

Wendall and Dorothy Helphrey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 12.

Mark and Terry Beauchamp celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Nov. 10.

1999

Christmas ornaments made by Mrs. Robert L. Yoder, Dale Garrett and Susan Mast of Wayland, and June Talbott of Mt. Union were displayed on trees in the Governor’s Office. This was in response to request for Iowans to make holiday ornaments for the Governor’s Office.

Wayland State Bank presented a check for $2500 to Parkview Home.

1994

Extensive damage and theft of Christmas decorations on both private and public property has lad to a city-wide watch.

JB Magdefrau was honored for 50 years of membership by Adoniram Lodge #120 A.F.&A.M. at the Wayland Masonic Temple on Dec. 10.

Clarence and Dorothy Wenger were honored for their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house.

Moving day for the WACO District into the new facility is set for Dec. 22.

WACO senior Eric Reichenbach was the winner of the 1989 Writing Achievement Award of the National Council of Teachers of English.

Kenneth A. Peterson, age 78, died Dec. 14, at his home in Wayland.

1984

Lulu Roth was the grand prize winner of Santa’s March to Wayland.

The Rex Sinn residence was the target of a break in sometime in the night of Dec. 14.

Brad Roth was honored for outstanding sales by Archer Petroleum of Omaha, Nebraska.

Sharon Johnson and Dan Haws were married Nov. 24 at the Lutheran Church in Swedesburg.

Wendall Davison has taken employment at Wayland State Bank.

Dan Dee’s Ice Crème Parlor will be open for bulk ice cream for holiday orders.
