A collective bargaining agreement for the 1978-1979 Pekin school year has been tentively agreed on by the negotiating teams representing the teachers and the Board of Education. A base salary has been established at $9700.
One of southeast Iowa’s oldest livestock auction sales was closed Dec. 27, 1977. The Ollie Livestock Exchange was built and opened in 1945.
About 30 people met Thursday night at the Richland Café for the regular Jan. meeting of the Richland Commercial Club. Marilyn Andeway met with the group, to discuss the construction of a county care facility in Richland.
The Richland Jaycees met Wednesday for a general meeting, preceded by a chili supper. Items of discussion included the first Jaycee stag for 1978; to be held Monday, Jan. 16.
About 30 farmers and a few wives attended an informational meeting at the Packwood Community Building last Friday to learn more about the American Agriculture movement.
The Richland Lions Club will serve their annual chili and oyster soup supper on Thursday, Jan. 26 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The Pekin area Cub Scout Pack No. 56 has been newly reorganized since it became inactive a little more than a year ago. A good number of boys, ages 8-11 have been registered and placed in dens in the Pekin community.
The Richland Jaycee Ettes today announced a new project to convert old jewelry and silverware into cash to fight muscular dystrophy.

The soup supper sponsored by the Packwood Betterment Council was a big success Saturday evening. Everything was sold out and about $100 was made.
The Packwood Community Library invited all area children to come to a Valentine Party to be held Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Packwood Community Building.
Robert Sheets of Ollie received a pin and certificate on Tuesday morning for completing 32 years of safe driving as a rural mail carrier for the Postal Service.
The Richland Jaycees are sponsoring free movies for the kids this Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Jaycee Hall on the south side of the square.
About 65 people from Ollie and the surrounding community met Tuesday night in a town meeting, to discuss dreams for their community. The meeting was led by Shirley St. John of Cedar Rapids, a representative of the Institute of Cultural Affairs.
The Pekin school board met Tuesday afternoon, after canceling the regular Monday night meeting, due to weather. The first order of business was a five cent increase in prices for hot lunch at the school.
Fifteen members of the Polk Packwood fire department, their wives, members of the Packwood city council, and the Polk Township trustees gathered on Sunday evening at the Packwood Community Building for the fourth annual soup supper.
The Brownie and Girl Scout troop from both Richland and Packwood will begin cookie sales this week on Friday, Feb. 24. The sales will continue through March 5.

Big Days may be returning to the town of Ollie this year, through the efforts of the newly formed Community Betterment Committee. The summer celebration was proposed for this year to help raise funds for projects needed in Ollie.
Around 175 people attended the Blue and Gold Banquet for the Pekin area Cub Scout troops in Packwood.
The 1974 Ford firetruck, owned by the city of Richland, was auctioned off Saturday and purchased by Chalmers Hoskins at a cost of $500.
At the Richland commercial Club meeting Thursday, the club heard a report on the Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored each year by the club. The hunt is planned for Saturday, March 25 at 2 p.m.
About 75 people were in attendance for the second community meeting held in Ollie to discuss plans for improving the community. The group was told about a program administered by the FHA for the construction of senior citizens rental units.
The Packwood city council met with Polk Township trustees to discuss an agreement providing a settlement on fire protection and equipment maintenance for the Polk-Packwood fire department.
This month’s story time at the Richland Library is going to be special, because the children will be helping celebrate the library’s one year birthday.
The Packwood Community Betterment Council met on Tuesday and made plans for a community party to be held on Saturday, April 8. The party is planned as an Appreciation Fun Night.
Saturday evening, April 1, there will be a party at the Rubio Community Building for all teenagers through senior citizens in the Rubio-Hopewell area.
All Cub Scout dens in the Pekin area will be joining together for a pack meeting on Saturday night, April 1 and will have a circus.

The Polk township trustees have purchased a 1978 firetruck for the Polk-Packwood fire department. The truck was purchased for about $30,000.
Parents and interested citizens of the community are invited to visit Pekin High School Thursday, April 13. Visitors may come for one class or the entire day to see classes as usual.
Twenty-four people were present at the Richland Commercial Club April meeting held Thursday. Major discussion for the evening centered around plans for a club sponsored Appreciation Day port barbeque day on Saturday, June 10.
Cub Scouts and Webelos in the Pekin area will be selling tickets to the Mid-Iowa Council Scout Show to be held on April 29 at the National Guard Armory in Oskaloosa.
The Packwood Community Betterment council met Tuesday evening for its April meeting. The group discussed sponsoring a horse show during the summer as a money making project.
The Pekin Community School annual Kindergarten Roundup for next fall’s Kindergarten pupils will be held Friday, April 28.
The Packwood city council met in special session on Monday night to discuss construction of an addition to the present fire station. After consideration, the council voted to construct a 32x24 addition on the west end of the building.
Discussion at the Richland Community Betterment meeting Thursday night centered around the possible construction of some rental apartments for senior citizens in Richland.
