Washington County Extension and Outreach are excited to announce Quilt Camp is back for the 2025 summer season. This camp started in 2024 and with dedicated volunteers and strong community sponsor support, camp is back for June 16-20, 9 a.m. — noon each day, at the Washington County Extension Office.
This camp is open to youth 6th-12th grade with all sewing skill levels welcome to learn from sewing volunteers from across the county. Volunteers will support participants in completing a Quilt of Valor® that week at camp. All quilts will be exhibited at the Washington County Fair as a quilting exhibit and then awarded to Veterans on July 18 at the County Fair. This club will teach and develop interest in the art of quilting, provide youth an artistic and creative opportunity and give youth a chance to support and know a Veteran from this community.
Quilting volunteers will assist every day at camp to help youth of all levels be able to participate.
The $50 camp fee provides quilting supplies, snacks and volunteer support all week. Youth will be asked to bring scissors, iron, pins with a detailed list provided upon registration.
Space is limited and registration will be open until filled or June 1 deadline. Register at https://tinyurl.com/4HQuiltCamp25
Thanks to the Quilt Camp in 2024, 10 Veterans were awarded with their own handmade patriotic quilt registered as a Quilt of Valor though the national Quilts of Valor foundation in a special ceremony at the Washington County Fair.
Amy Green, Washington County 4-H and Youth Coordinator, has been honored and humbled by the community support to keep this camp possible for kids.
“It’s been dream and then the right combination of volunteers, donations, and youth who made it all a reality,” said Green. “I was so proud of the youth last year wanting to recognize and honor Veterans in this way. It was a special ceremony, I look forward to hosting annually at the Washington County Fair for our Veterans,” said Green.
Instructor Brenna Goode of the Wellman Quilting Guild is instrumental in giving this opportunity to our community along with volunteer support of many seamstresses and quilters from the county.
