4-H horticulture workshops offered at Jefferson County Extension

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach of Jefferson County will host 4-H Horticulture and Garden workshops starting Feb. 4 from 9:30-11 a.m.

This will be a series of workshops starting in February and running until July. Dates and times of other months are yet to be determined. This is open to 4-H youth from 4th through 12th grade in Jefferson and surrounding counties. This program will instruct you on garden preparation, planning your space, and seed starting.

This will also help in preparing youth for Horticulture projects for the county fair. Topics for other months include what plants complement each other, pest and weed control, soil health, and plant care throughout the growing season. Later in the series, youth will learn how to harvest produce and prepare exhibits for fair.
